THE VICE PRESIDENTS' CLUB

12.04.10

Back in the year 2003, the then owners were struggling for finance and requested the committee to help in this. It was suggested by Brian Shears that a Club of former players and club officers was formed in an effort to bring a regular source of income. This was accepted by the committee, John Lawrence was quickly on board and together John and Brian set about contacting as many former players as possible.

Numbers were soon in the region of twenty-five or more, who were paying an annual membership fee of £20. Sadly, with the passing of time, we have lost a few of the original members but have to date managed to keep the membership going.

Over the years since 2003, we have managed to sponsor at least two games per season that many members have attended, plus also bringing along paying guests to help the attendance figures. The Vice Presidents' Club have also provided flowers on behalf of the Club at the funerals of former players.

Now is the time to contact another generation of former players, the likes of Lee Akers, Gary Hewitt and Russell Edwards (due to Dave McCartney leaving the committee we have lost contact with these players). So is there anyone out there in cyberspace who is in contact with any former players?

If you are, please give details to John Lawrence or Brian Shears, contact details on the contacts page. Better still, why not assist in the running of the Vice Presidents' Club, after all we all have one thing in common and that is the success and long term future of Dulwich Hamlet Football Club.

"Finally, I would like to thank all members of the Vice President's Club, who have given me such enjoyment in telephone calls, letters and talking over old times at our various meetings." Brian Shears
