DOVER ATHLETIC FRIENDLY REINSTATED

22.06.10

The visit of Dover Athletic to Champion Hill on Saturday 24th July is back on after the Kent club proposed friendly against Gillingham was cancelled by the Medway club. That game was originally arranged as a "thank you" gesture from previous hot seat incumbent Andy Hessenthaler but after he returned to the Whites for his replacement Ian Hendon just 18 days after the former Barnet manager was unveiled as manager, considerable anger was voiced from large quarters of the Dover faithful.

Speaking to Kent on Sunday at the weekend Dover chairman Jim Parmenter said: "I think inevitably the fan base are very passionate about Dover, they love the club and they will not be too happy with the events.

"We're going to review [the friendly]. I'm a bit concerned that the backlash might cause us a few problems. When the dust has settled we will review it and will make the decision in the next week. I don't want any issues around a pre-season friendly."

However Gillingham pre-empted any move by Dover, informing the Kent club that the fixture was cancelled earlier this week.
