Hamlet secure a 2nd Football v Homophobia Award!

On Friday seventh of March, we were delighted to head to Glasgow for the 2025 Football v Homophobia awards. The club for the sixth season running was nominated in the semi-professional/non-league category.

Over the past twelve months the Hamlet have once again gone above and beyond to support the LGBTQ+ Community. At the end of June.

Dulwich became the first non-league club to win the award for the second time having won originally back in 2022.

The Hamlet was awarded the award this year for our work in becoming (we think) the first non-league football club to participate in Pride in London. Over 75 supporters and sponsors descended on the streets of central London on an open top bus covered in rainbow as we celebrated all things LGBTQ+. However, the football club from the off was committed to sticking with Prides protest routes.

A number of participants held placards aloft campaigning for Transgender inclusion and calling out Transphobia in football and the wider world. As we approach Transgender Day of Visibility on Monday 31st March it's important to remember that even now the Trans community are being marginalised and attacked all over the world for just being themselves.

The club has also had to deal with homophobic incidents inside Champion Hill this season. Thanks to the work of club staff and match stewards the individual responsible was ejected from the stadium and the incident was dealt with in an efficient and effective manner.

Club staff are often found engaging with players on their experiences as LGBTQ+ people working in football helping to bridge the gap that is often found in football.

Of course, the Hamlet have led the way for years when it comes to LGBTQ+ inclusion in football. We welcome TRUK United to Champion Hill on 2 separate occasions. The 2nd visit was a record-breaking night under the lights at the Hill as the world's first Trans Masculine team took to a football pitch to play a match against our supporters' side.

Our main stand in partnership with our sponsors Defected Records is the phrase 'In Our House We Are All Equal' in full rainbow writing. You can also find pride flags as our corner flags both here at Champion Hill and at our training ground. Our pathway around the pitch perimeter also has 2 pride flags painted into the path. One by turnstiles 1-4 and the other by turnstiles 5 & 6.

Champion Hill and Dulwich Hamlet Football Club have become a beacon of light for LGBTQ+ loving football fans especially those right here in south London.

The clubs tireless work over the decades has allowed for people from all walks of life whether they are a member of the LGBTQ+ community or not to express themselves inside Champion Hill without the fear of judgement knowing that they'll always have a pink & blue home here at the Hill.
