Marvel Joins The Hamlet
Ekpiteta added to squad as Hak seeks end to leaky defence.
After seeing his side concede 13 goals in the first five games this season, Hakan Hayrettin has swiftly reacted by bringing in centre-back Marvel Ekpiteta.
The 28-year-old is reunited at the Hamlet with Michael Chambers, alongside whom he has played the previous two seasons at Billericay Town, making almost 100 appearances during that time.
Marvel has a wealth of non-league experience, having appeared for the likes of Chelmsford City, Bishop's Stortford, Ebbsfleet United and Dover Athletic during his career, and could make his debut during our FA Cup tie with Haringey Borough in the First Qualifying Round. He has also played for Newport County, playing for them in the EFL Trophy in 2019.
Despite having Chambers, Jerry Gyebi, Manny Parry, Cem Tumkaya and Jerome Binnom-Williams as centre-back options, Hakan has been less than impressed with defensive displays during the opening games.
"He's actually a player we wanted to sign this summer," said Hakan, "but for personal and family reasons he wasn't able to join us at the time. However his circumstances have changed and we are delighted that he can now come in and be part of the squad, he is an excellent defender."
"There will be players coming in and going out too, that is football, I want a strong and competitive squad and Marvel will add to that. I hope it sends a message that no one is guaranteed to play here, every player must work to be in this team."
Welcome Marvel!
