REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Cray Wanderers

It was not the end of the season or the send-off for Mark Ricketts that Hamlet had hoped for. Four goals from Gary Lockyer proved the difference as Cray Wanderers defeated Dulwich Hamlet 6-2 in front of a sold-out crowd at Champion Hill.

By the time Lockyer grabbed his first of the day in the 31st minute, finishing at the second attempt, after Lakin saved the first, Wanderers were already a goal to the good. Following a Cray corner Anthony Cook was pulled back in the area by Danny Mills and the ex-Hamlet man took the penalty himself. He cheekily chipped it down the middle of the goal to give the away side the lead.

Hamlet pulled one back in the 41st minute, through a Roarie Deacon header from a Luke Wanadio cross and as we headed down the tunnel at half-time there was optimism that we could get something from the game, as only a superb save from Shaun Rowley had denied Danny Mills an equaliser.

The second half was all about Lockyer though. In the 55th minute, he doubled his tally and Wanderers lead, racing onto a Nyren Clunis flick-on and finishing smartly with his left foot, shooting across Lakin and into the bottom right-hand corner.

In the 59th minute, he headed in Sam Wood’s corner to complete the perfect hat-trick, and just three minutes later he grabbed his fourth, volleying in from close range after Alfie Evans shot was blocked.

After a storied 23-year-career, Mark Ricketts was playing his last game before retiring. In the 84th minute, the crowd stood to applaud as he was substituted for Kaya Hansson. The substitute made an instant impact, pulling a goal back just one minute after coming on. Luke Wanadio's crossed from the left, Hasson, who was making a forward run, collected at pace, took one touch and then slotted under Rowley from close range.

There was still time for one more goal though, with Tom Beere grabbing the sixth for Wanderers in the 88th minute.
