REPORT | Hamlet advance in London Senior Cup

It was Leyton Orient who got us underway and from the first whistle, they came out like rockets. They played high intensity football and possessed a threat in the opening ten minutes and pressured the Dulwich back line.

Oli Lynch bravely blocked a clearance with his body which forced an early substitution for the Hamlet, George Porter came on in his place.

Dulwich grew into the game after the early substitution, shutting down more of Orient’s attacks and became more comfortable and settled in possession.

Jayden Sweeney collected the ball on the left by the halfway line, cut through the middle and his solo effort was sent just wide of the post, and the best chance of the opening 20 minutes went to Orient.

Skipper Jerome Binnom-Williams hammered his free kick, just outside the box, through the wall and into the back of the net to give the Hamlet a deserved lead in the 29th minute.

Porter with the press on the edge of the six yard box won the ball and found Wanadio who blasted the ball over the bar just seconds after the restart.

Dulwich showed no sign of slowing down as the first half came to a close, with Ross Marshall’s header saved at the near post and a powerful volley from Ryley Scott which went over the crossbar.

Tensions ran high in the concluding stages of the first half with some pushing and shoving and a couple of yellow cards for Orient. The Hamlet went in 1-0 leaders.

Zac Hambury outpaced the Dulwich backline and slotted the ball to Abdi Mohamud who levelled the score out early on in the second half.

Determined to regain the advantage, Binnom-Williams’ corner finds Scott outside the box. His shot ricocheted off the post.

Dulwich’s second substitution saw Scott be swapped for Ralfi Hand.

With 15 minutes to go, Dulwich were pulling out everything to find the winner in this game as Anthony Jeffrey charged down the right hand side of the pitch looking for the cross in.

The final Dulwich change saw Danny Mills replace Ross Marshall.

Dulwich could not find a way through in the second half which meant the game was taken straight to penalties.

Jameson Horlick pulled off a magnificent save to see Dulwich through to the third round of the London Senior Cup.

Penalty scorers for Dulwich Hamlet: Binnom-Williams, Ibrahiym, Hand, Porter & Wanadio
