REPORT | Cambridge United vs Dulwich Hamlet | 22/09/24

The Hamlet Women hit the road on Sunday afternoon and headed to the Abbey Stadium to take on a Cambridge United side unbeaten in their last 3 games.

It would be a nervy opening few minutes for the Hamlet with Saskia Reeves Priestley called into action coming and meeting a cross a minute later she would meet a cross in the air again this time punching the ball clear.

Cambridge would go close after 18 minutes with the best chance of the game so far, a slick team move game them space in the box but they couldn't convert their shot into a goal.

10 minutes later with the Hamlet boosted by well over 150 fans travelling from South London and we'd almost have the lead. Martha Goddard striking from range only to see her shot tipped over the bar.

We'd take the lead from the resulting corner as Angie Dunbar-Bonnie scored yet another goal in pink & blue. Cambridge failed to deal with the corner and Anna Jowle produced what looked to be a goalward overhead kick but her shot struck the bar and fell to Angie who slammed her shot home.

2 minutes later and Asia Harbour Brown would almost have our 2nd with a long range strike that hit the underside of the crossbar before being cleared away.

As the half-time whistle approached Goddard would again almost score following a driven run into the box but her shot was tipped wide of the post.

It would take just 5 minutes of the 2nd half for the Hamlet to secure their second. Makeshift striker Tash Stephens with a long range strike from the edge of the box that sailed over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Cambridge would go close with 20 minutes to go but their distant shot headed well over the bar causing Saskia no problems.

With that the Hamlet returned to winning ways in the FAWNL climbing up to 5th in the league table before a trip to Chatham Town on Wednesday night and Moneyfields on Sunday in the FAWNL Cup.
