REPORT Chatham Town vs Dulwich Hamlet

Our women headed to Chatham on a wet Wednesday night in our first midweek league fixture of the season.

The Hamlet made one change from the victory over Cambridge United at the Abbey as Phoebe Leitch replaced Anna Jowle as the rain fell down.

The hosts were forced into long range strikes for the majority of the 1st half and just 8 minutes in Saskia Reeves Priestley was called into action to easily deny a distant strike by the former step 3 side.

17 minutes later and Saskia would be called into action again as Chatham countered quickly although their shot was deflected and fell to the hands of the Dulwich number 1.

Lily Price would have our first meaningful strike at goal. A tidy team move gave Price space on the edge pof the box but her shot was saved by the Chatham keeper.

With 5 minutes to go Chatham would almost take the lead but Saskia managed to get down to a low driven shot and tip it round the post.

Minutes later and the Hamlet almost had the lead. A defensive mix up led to a pass back having to be cleared away by the keeper after the defender had ignored her calls.

It took almost 15 minutes for the 2nd half to breath into life. A well worked corner led to them striking the crossbar twice in 3 seconds only for Asia Harbour Brown to hoof the ball clear.

3 minutes later and Chatham would have a deserved lead. A cross looped over the head of Saskia and into the back of the net with just under 30 minutes to go.

The Hamlet began to press as they went after an equaliser but failed to really cause the Chatham defence any issues.

3 minutes from time and the hosts would secure all 3 points as they broke through and placed their shot perfectly past Saskia in the Hamlet goal.

Our women became the 3 Hamlet side to travel to Chatham in 2024 and are the 3rd side to coke back empty handed.

Dulwich head to Moneyfields on Sunday in the next round of the FAWNL Cup at 14:00.
