REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs AFC Croydon Athletic
A stumbling Dulwich Hamlet side stumbled into life to fire themselves into the next round of the Isthmian Women's Cup.
A strong Hamlet side would be pushed by a resolute Croydon for large chunks of the 1st half before killing the game off.
It took 15 minutes for the game to really spark into life Martha Goddard attempted to pick out Lucy Monkman at the back post only for the keeper to get down and stop the cross.
7 minutes later and the Hamlet would take a deserved lead, Tash Stephens broke through on goal and fired the Hamlet ahead with a tidy finish into the top corner.
With 26 minutes gone the visitors would almost level it up an outside of the boot cross was headed clear by Erin Corrigan before Saskia Reeves Priestley got her hands on the ball to deny a quick Croydon attack.
On the stroke of half time the Hamlet would put this cup tie to bed with 2 goals in as many minutes.
Lucy Monkman saw her shot saved by the keeper only for the ball to fall to the feet of Tash Stephens who smashed it home from the edge of the 6 yard box for her 2nd of the evening.
Stephens would have her hat trick just before the whistle as she connected with a pin point cross and looped her header into the back of the net giving the hosts a deserved 3 goal lead at the break.
It would take just under 15 minutes for the 2nd half to spark into life. The Hamlet would add a 4th as Goddard picked out Monkman who unselfishly squared it to Eleanor Hutchings who slammed her shot home from the edge of the box.
Minutes later and we'd almost have a 5th. Goddard again causing issues on the right hand side but her cross just evaded the feet of Monkman in the box.
Half time substitue Asia Harbour Brown would get in on the act following a well worked free kick routine gave Angie Dunbar-Bonnie time to head the ball into the path of Harbour Brown who rifled her shot home.
Minnie Cruttwell would step up for our 6th as Goddard once again picked out a pin point cross that gave Cruttwell time to fire her shot home.
Anna Jowle would head home our 7th and her 1st of the season as she met the ball in the air following a corner and it found the back of the net.
As we enter the final 10 minutes it became just wave after wave of Dulwich attack. Nat Taylor would be the one to secure our 8th with a tidy finish from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Angie Danubar-Bonnie would finish the job off with a trademark finish. As she cut in from the left onto her right foot and curled her shot beautifully into the bottom corner.
With that the Hamlet advance to the next round of the competition where they will host Farnham Town at Champion Hill. A date for this fixture will be announced when we have one.
