REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Ashford Town (Middlesex) | FAWNL | 01/09/24

Hamlet reach 7 heaven as they brush aside former league rivals.

After 2 games away in East London the Hamlet returned to Champion Hill on Sunday afternoon to take on old rivals Ashford Town (Middlesex) in our 1st game of September.

The hosts were boosted by the return of Summer Roberts to the bench after completing her rehab for an injury she suffered in the early stages of pre season.

Ashford came into this one winless having been knocked into the FAWNL Plate following a defeat to Maidenhead United during the week.

Dulwich would get the 1st chance of the game after just 10 minutes as Ede Buchele broke through on goal only to see her shot saved by Swan in the visitors goal.

It would take just 5 more minutes for the deadline to be broken as Angie Dunbar-Bonnie opened the scoring. Phoebe Leitch played a beautiful pass into the path of Angie who was tackled well before winning the ball back and slotting the ball home.

That would be the start of a manic 10 minutes as the Hamlet would find themselves 2 ahead on the 20th minute thanks to an own goal after a cross by Tash Stephens was deflected in.

3 minutes later Dunbar-Bonnie would again get in on the action this time winning a penalty after being taken down in the box. Lily Price stepped up and calmly dispatched her shot into the back of the net.

Dunbar-Bonnie would once again prove to be too much to handle for the visitors as she cut inside from the left hand side and curled her shot into the top corner making it 4-0 after just 30 minutes.

The Hamlet would finish their 5 star performance in the 1st half by scoring a 5th on the stroke of half-time. Tash Stephens picked out Lily Price who squared it over to Nat Taylor who scrambled it home for her first goal in the famous pink & blue.

As the 2nd half kicked off Saskia Reeves Priestley was called into action and did well to save a long range free kick. Rhea Gall then stepped in to clear the ball well away from the danger area.

We'd add a 6th just before the hour mark as Ede Buchele made a driving run down the right wing and found Taylor in the box who scored her 2nd of the afternoon.

With just over 15 minutes left the Hamlet would go close on a number of occasions thanks to a flurry of corners but they couldn't find the back of the net.

With 10 minutes to go Summer Roberts would make her long awaited return to the Hill as she replaced Ede Buchele. Roberts would almost have an immediate impact after she put the ball into the back of the net only for the referee to blow up for a foul in the lead up.

Summer would have her goal in added time as she turned her defender and riffled her shot into the roof of the net.

That would be that as the Hamlet picked up their first win of the season at Champion Hill meaning it's 3 wins from the last 3.
