Dulwich Hamlet to Face Royal Engineers in Charity Match
Dulwich Hamlet to Face Royal Engineers in Charity Match Celebrating 150th Anniversary of FA Cup triumph
In a historic nod to football's rich heritage, Dulwich Hamlet Football Club will play a charity match against the Royal Engineers AFC on Saturday 10th May 2025, at RSME No1 Ground, Kings Bastion in Gillingham.
This game commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Royal Engineers' landmark FA Cup victory—the sole triumph by a military team in the competition's history.
The Royal Engineers clinched the FA Cup in 1875, overcoming the Old Etonians in a replayed final.
The charity match, which will include a mixture of representatives from our Men’s, Women’s and Supporter’s teams will kick off at 2pm as part of the Royal Engineers’ Festival of Football.
The game will be followed by a match between the Royal Engineers first team and Old Etonians in a replay of the 1875 FA Cup final. Throughout the day, there will also be a range of family friendly events taking place.
Entry to both games and the festival of football is completely free. More information about the event can be found here.
The event will be raising funds for The Royal Engineers Association – The Sapper Charity as well as Mind North Kent.
This match also has a further significant meaning for everyone associated with Dulwich Hamlet FC. Back in 2019, club legend and super fan Mishi Morath, suffered a heart attack whilst watching the Royal Engineers play. The swift response of the Royal Engineers staff and medical team saved Mishi’s life. The plan has always been to arrange a charity game between the the Royal Engineers and Dulwich Hamlet. However, COVID put a halt to plans that were well underway.
This exciting match offer the club the opportunity to support the fundraising efforts of the Royal Engineers as well as remembering a Dulwich Hamlet great.
It promises to be great day of celebration!
