Rhea Gall joins our Black History Exhibition
We are pleased to announce the latest inductee to our permanent exhibition of prominent black Hamlet players and coaches, Rhea Gall who is a member of our women’s team.
In October 2015, the club celebrated the start of that years Black History Month by unveiling a photo exhibition commemorating the achievements of various past and present black players and coaching staff. The initial set of 8 pictures were added to in 2021 and included, for the first time, members of our women’s team.
The exhibition has been on permanent display in the club bar since 2020 and Rhea’s picture will shortly be added to those already on display.
Defender Rhea, has been involved with the club for over a decade and started playing for the club from the age of 15, firstly for the reserve team at AFC phoenix before they merged with Dulwich Hamlet in 2019, and has become a permanent member of our women’s first team.
Outside of the club, Rhea works for Football Beyond Borders (FBB) an organisation many Hamlet fans will be aware of with the club having supported FBB since it’s early years, as their school programmes lead.
FBB makes use of the power of football to support young people navigate school and Rhea’s work has a direct positive influence on not only young people who are at risk of being excluded, but those that might need support in other areas of their lives.
Her FFB role involves her working directly with the young people in school delivering a social and emotional learning curriculum as well as playing football with them to develop different types of soft skills needed for school and in wider life.
In a recent club interview Rhea explained that she love’s being a mentor for young people and enjoy using my passion for football to support them.
With this year’s Black History Month focusing on “saluting our sisters” it was felt that with Rhea’s comment to women’s football, together with her work supporting young people, she was an obvious choice to be added to the permanent exhibition.
