REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Cambridge United | FAWNL | 23/02/25
The Hamlet return to Champion Hill on Sunday afternoon following last weekends postponement in the Capital Women's Cup. Ryan Dempsey named an unchanged 11 from the side that drew 0-0 with Chatham Town just over a week ago.
It was a far from ideal start for the Hamlet as they'd find themselves behind after just a minute as Cambridge completed a well worked team move.
The visitors weren't ahead for long as Rhea Gall equalised after 7 minutes. The centre half connected beautifully with a Lily Price corner and looped her header into the back of the net.
After 18 minutes Anna Jowle went close. Iesha Swaby played the ball to Angie Dunbar-Bonnie who cut in and delivered a cross into the six yard box but AJ fired her shot over the bar.
Iesha Swaby went close just after the half hour mark but her shot was blocked and went out for a corner as the sides headed in level at the break.
It's the visitors who would start the brightest of the 2 sides in the 2nd half and they'd retake the lead after 47 minutes. A long free kick came off the knee of Rhea Gall and sailed past Saskia Reeves-Priestley into the back of the net.
From here though it was all Dulwich and it would be Martha Goddard who'd go close to equalising after a driving run she cut in and curled a shot towards the back post only for the keeper to save.
With 25 to go it would be Saskia that was called into action. A Cambridge strike looked destined for the back of the net but Saskia managed to get high and tip the shot over the bar.
With 15 to go though the Hamlet would finally level the scores again. A goal line scramble saw the ball fall to Tash Stephens who smashed her shot home.
The Hamlet were now on the up and pushing for a winner. They almost had one as Stephens latched onto a looping ball acrobatically but her shot was blocked by what appeared to be a Cambridge United hand but the referee waived away and penalty appeals.
That would be that at the Hill as the Hamlet secured their 5th point from their last 3 games in front of 556 supporters at Champion Hill.
