REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Charlton Athletic | 25/02/25

The Hamlet returned to Champion Hill following their Isthmian League postponement on Saturday afternoon. Charlton Athletic were the opponents as the Hamlet looked to book their spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 London Senior Cup.

The Addicks are the 2 time defending champions of this competition and started this tie on the front foot. A deep corner was hooked away by Hamlet defender Jordan Wynter.

Dillon Barnes was called into action after 10 minutes as he reacted to deny the visitors who'd broke quickly on the counter attack.

Minutes later though Amaru Kaunda would almost fire the Hamlet ahead. Danny Mills got his head on a cross and put the ball into Kaunda's path but he fired his shot against the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

As we approached the midway point of the first half the Hamlet really started to take control. A Williams-Bushell free kick led to mayhem in the Charlton box as the Hamlet unleashed 4 shots in a matter of seconds all were blocked before the ball was eventually cleared away.

With 5 minutes left of the first half the Hamlet would finally take the lead. Kaunda won the ball and played Mills through who squared it out to Luke Wanadio who cut in and fired his shot home. His first goal for the Hamlet since Bradley Quinton took charge in SE22.

The Hamlet would deservedly head in ahead at half-time thanks to Wanadio's late strike.

Three minutes into the 2nd half and Dulwich would take 1 giant step towards the semi-final of the Senior Cup. Mills was pushed in the back and awarded a penalty. Up stepped Wanadio who unleashed a penalty into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

After 65 minutes there was a lengthy stoppage at the Hill as Dillon Barnes was whipped out as he went for the ball. Barnes would be replaced by Arber Grosha who last appeared for the Hamlet in the defeat to Binfield in the Velocity Cup.

Grosha would be called into action in the final minutes as he got down to deny the visitors.

The Hamlet would advance to the semi-finals of the London Senior Cup preventing the Addicks from completing a rare three-peat.

We'll take on either Hanwell Town or Tooting & Mitcham United in the semi-final of the competition away from home. Those 2 sides meet in their quarter-final on Tuesday 25th March.
