REPORT | Dulwich Hamlet vs Cray Valley (PM)
An entertaining game, in front of 1,788 fans at Champion Hill, ended 4-2 to high-flying Cray Valley PM, who moved up to second place.
Five of the six goals came in an explosive opening 45 minutes and, with just seven minutes on the clock, it was actually The Hamlet who took the lead.
Jerome Binnom-Willams cleared a Cray corner and found Anthony Jeffrey. The speedy winger was inside his own half, so still had a lot to do. He spun his marker and turned on the afterburners. No one was going to catch him, he drove into the area before crossing for Luke Wanadio, who sidefooted home from near the penalty spot to take his league tally for the season to 16.
Our lead would only last for seven minutes. Dan Bowry drove forward from centre-back and nutmegged a Hamlet defender to find Adam Coombes. The forward, who was just inside the area, took one touch before firing into the corner of the net, giving Dillon Barnes no chance. Cray were now on top and in the 21st minute, a back post corner came off the back of our captain’s head to give the away side the lead with an own goal.
In the 32nd minute, Coombes was at the double to double Cray’s lead. The impressive Andre Coker crossed from the right, Coombes stooped and made no mistake, powering a header into the roof of the net.
As the first half ticked into injury time, Jeffrey was fouled just outside of the area. A committee of Max Hudson, Wanadio and Binnom-Williams formed and thankfully they left it to the captain. He scored at the right end, firing home a 20-yard free-kick to halve the deficit.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with more yellow cards than shots, and it would take until the 80th minute for Cray to put the result beyond doubt, with Matt Vigor scoring a scuffed effort from just inside the box.
