A wonderful gesture!
A BIG thank you from all a Dulwich Hamlet Football Club to The Met following last night's Velocity Trophy semi-final
The boys in blue kindly donated their share of the gate money, in a wonderfully touching gesture, as every penny counts for The Hamlet, after being forced out of Champion Hill, which has been our home in various guises since 1902.
Dulwich Hamlet Football Club Football Committee Chairman Liam Hickey said:
"We didn't hold out the begging bowl, but they came forward and offered what they were due, as this was a shared gate cup tie. We've had so much support from all over the non-league fraternity, and this gesture from the Met on top gives us all such a boost during this tough period. In times of trouble you certainly find out who your true friends are."
Liam added:
"I'd also like to show our appreciation to our hosts at Tooting & Mitcham United, they really couldn't have done more to help us feel at home yesterday. Rivals on the pitch & terraces they may traditionally be, but we will never forget what they are doing for us."
He concluded:
" I'd also like to express my gratitude to all of our fans who stepped up to the plate as volunteers, operating turnstiles, selling programmes, running the '50/50' sales, retrieving footballs and shaking buckets. Without supporters like that we are nothing as a Club. United we fight on."
