AFC HORNCHURCH 1-1 DULWICH HAMLET

AFC HORNCHURCH 1-1 DULWICH HAMLET

A hard earned point from a battling performance where The Hamlet got stronger as the game progressed.

It was a welcome sight for all Hamlet fans to see the reassuring presence of Phil Wilson in goal and this was reflected in a much stronger defensive display. The defence showed a number of changes with Peter Adeniyi at right back, Marc-Anthony Okoye in the middle and Ethan Pinnock at left back. Further forward, Erhun Oztumer started on the bench with Xavier Vidal partnering Tommy Kavanagh in the centre of midfield.

The game got off to a slow start with Hornchurch on top but unable to create anything worthwhile in terms of chances. In fact, it was Dulwich who looked more dangerous with a couple of chances from balls into the box. Nyren Clunis had a.good shout for a penalty as he appeared to be clipped as he turned in the area.

However, they were to fall behind as a quick break out saw Stefan Payne deliver a spectacular shot on the run in the 25th minute that flew past Wilson and in off the post.

The rest of the half was full of endeavour but without any real quality, with Dulwich looking at their most dangerous through the marauding runs of Peter Adeniyi down the right.

Half Time 1-0

Now with the wind in their favour Dulwich pressed hard from the restart and lengthened up their passes to try to negate the difficult surface. Gradually, they assumed the upper hand without creating clear chances.

As they pressed for an equaliser, Kevin James forced a finger tip save from Echepare in the home goal before the introduction of Erhun Oztumer led to an equaliser with 12 minutes remaining..He delivered a well flighted free kick into the box that Kevin James flicked home with a deft header.

It was now The Hamlet who looked the more likely winners. and Dean Lodge was inches away at the far post from converting a Kershaney Samuels cross from the left, although on a rare break out the home side flashed a shot across goal.

Dulwich continued to press through 5 minutes of added time but were unable to fashion another clear chance.
