AFC Sudbury 2-2 Dulwich Hamlet

There are some draws that feel like victories and some that feel like losses; this was the latter.

This was a game that Dulwich dominated for long periods but ultimately a combination of poor finishing and defending left them having to settle for a point.

Dulwich got off to the worst possible start when a flowing passing move saw the ball moved to the Dulwich left and a pinpoint low cross was thumped into the roof of the net by the onrushing Sam Clarke.

The Hamlet gradually got their passing game going as they forced the home side back. A Kadell Daniel corner was headed back from beyond the far post by Nathan Green but Daniel Carr headed over whilst Gavin Tomlin fired over, as Dulwich took control with Nyren Clunis, Kadell Daniel, Gavin Tomlin & Daniel Carr linking well.

In the 23rd minute Nyren Clunis had a shot that was inches wide with Garnham in the home goal rooted to the spot, whilst the keeper got down low to thwart Daniel Carr. Gavin Tomlin then released Nyren Clunis on the left but his effort clipped the crossbar.

All the pressure finally told in the 37th minute when Daniel Carr was released down the right and his cross was headed in by the onrushing Ken Beaney.

Three minutes later Dulwich were in front. The home side conceded a free kick to the right of their goal and some 25 yards out. Kadell Daniel stepped up and lifted his shot over the wall and in off the post past the despairing Garnham.

Garnham prevented Sudbury conceding a third on half time with a save from Carr after more good work from Daniel

Half Time 1-2

The second half began as the first had ended with Dulwich on top and they should have put the result beyond doubt within the first 15 minutes.

Within a minute of the restart, Daniel and Tomlin combined to find Carr but he scuffed his effort wide. Daniel then fired a 49th minute effort wide and within a minute he put Carr into space but he shot wide after trying to round Garnham.

Carr then had another effort saved as Tomlin this time carved open the home defence, whilst Tomlin flicked a headed effort wide and Daniel saw a cross shot saved.

However, the home side levelled in the 66th minute with virtually their first attack of the half. There seemed no danger on the Dulwich left but in unnecessarily trying to win the ball, Dulwich allowed the player to turn inside and Callander was left in space to level the scores.

Sudbury then thrwatened again almost from the restart, although at the other end Nyren Clunis should have done better when Daniel and Tomlin again combined to find him in space.

The final 15 minutes became more even, although the only save of note from Garnham came after Nathan Green tried an effort from a tight angle. Preston Edwards then had to be alert to turn away a free kick with the game deep in stoppage time.

Final Score 2-2
