Another chat with Gavin
First team boss Gavin Rose took time out to answer some of our questions...
We lost on Saturday, 3-2 at home to AFC Hornchurch, out first defeat back in the Ryman Premier. How disappointing was that?
"Yes, of course it's disappointing, I can't say otherwise. They came to contain us, and maybe nick something and that's what happened, although we dominated. We certainly had the chances, but we need to convert more, in terms of goal ratio, which isn't as high as it could be."
Which brings us on to strikers. Terrible bad luck with Harry Ottaway's injury, but Ian Daly did well today. Are we still looking to strengthen though?
"Yes, I am always looking to strengthen within the budget. Ironically I wanted to sign their substitute who came off the bench and scored two goals today, It was looking good, but in reality we didn't have the money to pay him what Hornchurch were offering. I just didn't have the budget, so I need to be a bit creative in how I use the money we have available. In terms of bringing players in I'm only going to do that if it helps us with our end product."
I understand some squad players have been sent out on loan, where have they gone and what's the reasoning?
" Yes, that's right. Kershaney Samuels, Olumide Lapite & Nassim Dukali have gone to Guildford City for experience. For someone like Kershaney, there's no point in him sitting around watching us play on Saturdays, it's more beneficial to him to be playing, then I can call on him with match practice under his belt. Another two of last season's ASPIRE Academy boys from our Youth Team have gone To Banstead Athletic to pick up some experience, they are Emiliano Hysi and Tyler Myers."
On to the FA Cup, Shoreham beat Walton Casuals at the weekend, so we know who we face in the first qualifying round. do you know anything about them?
"No, I don't. But we've got a couple of weeks until we play them, and even though they're in the Sussex County League, we're not taking anything for granted, and although an unknown quantity at the moment I am definately going to make sure we have them watched."
To finish our chat, we also have a new fixture, the Isthmian Charity Shield game at home to Faversham Town. It's something we've never been invited to compete in before. Is it a hindrance or an honour to be asked?
"Well as you can imagine, it's a game that's been sprung on me very suddenly, and we have a lot of games coming up. But, of course it will be an honour rather than a hindrance, &-as with all games-we will be going out to win it."
