Ben spot on!
15 year old Hamlet fan BEN CALDECOURT blasted away the opposition in the half-time penalty shoot-out last night to win a fully signed Hamlet shirt
Ben was the king of the spot kicks, to claim the prize, beating fellow Dulwich fans JAMIE WYATT and DAVID McCREERY, in sudden death, after the trio had all scored two out of three in the competition.
They took part after each having the winning tickets in the raffle on Saturday, organised to boost the "12th Man" fund, which is certainly did, to the tune of no less than £214.
Shaun Dooley, who co-organises the "12th Man" along with Neil Cole, spoke to Hamlet Pitchero last night & told us: "It was a great success, not just the raffle, which gave the fund a great boost, but the penalties. All three seemed to enjoy it, not just Ben who claimed the big prize. And it was great to see so many behind the goal enjoying the fun. There was more noise from our lot at half-time than from the Tooting fans during the game! I've got to say a big thank you to Gavin Rose for offering up the signed shirt to raffle for the competition. It was his way of giving something back to the supporters for their backing of the "12th Man" campaign. It's symbolic of the way the Club is nowadays, with everyone pulling together in the right direction as one. It's nice that the "12th Man" can be part of that, with all of the supporters backing Gavin with their donations and Gavin backing the fans, like tonight, in return."
Still clutching his prized shirt, we managed to grab a few words with the beaming victorious BEN CALDECOURT too:
It must be nice for you to have won...
"Yeah, I've got to stop my dad from nicking it off of me. But I don't mind if he wants to buy a frame for it. I was surprised, but then surprise was the key to my success."
Having seen off the other two to become the Champion Hill penalty king, have you any tips for someone like Erhun Oztumer, on your spot kick techniques?
"To be fair to the little man he's not too bad at them either, but he's more than welcome to carry on watching me if he wants to improve. I hope I haven't put pressure on him, I've raised the bar a little..."
The whole event was in aid of the "12th Man" fund. What does that mean to you?
"It has been great, really successful at helping the Club. That's been shown on the pitch as well as off it. Even if you're still at school like me, my pound is just as important as a tenner from an adult who's working. We can all put money in the bucket to help the Club."
So you've enjoyed the whole taking penalties thing on the pitch?
"Yes, it's been great to win the shirt. I'd like to thank my dad for giving me the ticket to take part. Mind you it wasn't one of the ones he bought, Brian Oliver game him his ones, as 'Ollie' wanted to give money for the raffle but wasn't interested in either the shoot-out or keeping the shirt, and my dad Ian reckons his knees are gone, but between you and me I just think he was too scared. So it was all down to me to bring some glory to the family."
Many thanks for taking time to chat, and congratulations!
"Thanks, and I'd like to say thank you to Shaun, Neil and Gavin for arranging it all. See you Saturday."
