Big Erhun Oztumer interview in the papers!

Big Erhun Oztumer interview in the papers!

Our mini-maestro features in the 'Southwark News' today.

Erhun speaks to'Southwark News' reporterJohn Prendergast in the paper, which hit the newsstands this morning.

I didn't think about going to any other team-Hamlet's Turkish star

Having plied your trade as a pro in Turkish football you wouldn't think Dulwich Hamlet would be the first port of call when returning to England, but that's exactly what Erhun Öztümer claims.

"The first thing I did when I came back was call Gavin [Rose] up and see if I could come back. Straight away I wanted to come to Dulwich and work with Gavin. I know the way he coaches and he knows the way I play so I did not think about going to any other team.”

The 21-year-old has already had quite a footballing journey taking in Charlton as a youth team player, before travelling to Turkey where he had periods at Super Lig outfits Manisaspor and Sivasspor as a teenager.

Of Turkish Cypriot stock the Bexleyheath lad had to embrace a new language and culture in his bid to turn pro, but he is now back in the country of his birth where he is already wowing the Champion Hill faithful.

The 5' 3" midfielder has bagged late goals that have secured points and turned in dazzling displays that have seen him become a terrace favourite in quick time.

The fans have created a new song in his honour, which Öztümer is flattered by. He said:"I have heard the songs and it's nice to hear them supporting us all. The fans came down to Eastbourne the other week, which is a long drive, and they give up their time to come everywhere with us and they help us, they really do.”

But he believes he is in the best place to fulfil his dreams with the coaching trio of Rose, Junior Kadi and Kevin James he feels he is in good hands.

He added:"Them three are hands on and always want us to improve. We are never great, we can always be better. We can win 5-0 but we could have won 10-0, it's all about improving and that is the main thing about them. Dulwich are more direct than in Turkey where they try to pass the ball more, but that is because I was at Premiership sides. But at Dulwich we do pass it about and it's amazing, I would not expect a non-league side to do what we do.”

Öztümer's goals are simple both in the long and short term and both involve success for Dulwich and him personally. He told the News:"This year I want to win the league with Dulwich and long term I want to be a pro again. I want to show everybody what I have got. People have doubted me because of my height and I want to prove them wrong.”
