Billericay Town 0-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich produced a magnificent performance to get immediate revenge for Saturday's home defeat.

Gavin Rose was able to call upon Ibrahim Kargbo and also restored Sanchez Ming, Marc Weatherstone and Ibra Sekajja to the starting line up.

Billericay started much like Saturday and looked to establish early dominance. However, unlike Saturday, there was no early goal as Dulwich's triumvirate of central defenders repelled the home side successfully.

It was from this base that The Hamlet began to get a foothold in the game as they refused to be bullied. In fact, it took a good interception from the home side's Ellul to prevent a dangerous cross from Sanchez Ming reaching Gavin Tomlin.

For the home side, giant centre back Rob Swaine headed wide from a 19th minute corner before Dulwich took a 21st minute lead. From a free kick the ball was played into Ashley Carew who produced a terrific ball around the corner that found Ibra Sekajja in space and he volleyed home.

Billericay did have the ball in the net in the 25th minute but there had been a clear foul on Preston Edwards as he looked to claim a high ball. Dulwich then gave away possession with a careless pass but O'Hara's shot was deflected wide, whilst the resultant corner saw a header planted wide.

Dulwich came close to increasing their lead in the 27th minute but Gavin Tomlin couldn't rise enough to get over the ball from an Ibrahim Kargbo cross and his header just cleared the bar.

Dulwich were now in the asdendancy and Ibra Sekajja was causing the home defence all sorts of problems. From a corner, the home defence failed to clear and were indebted to Julian for a great save that thwarted Sekajja's close range effort.

However, Dulwich added a second in the 33rd minute. Sekajja was fouled some 25 yards out and Ashley Carew stepped up to beat Julian with an exquisitely struck free kick.

As the Dulwich fans waited for Billericay to up their tempo and launch a fightback, it didn't arrive and they were able to comfortably play out the remainder of the half with no alarms.

Half Time 0-2

It came as no surprise to see the home side push The Hamlet back early in the second half. What was surprising was that they were unable to do this through any flowing football, rather relying on the long throws of Matt Johnson. However, Matt Drage, Michael Chambers and Marc Weatherstone were able to deal with the threat and Preston Edwards showed impeccable decision making and handling behind them.

In fact, it was Dulwich who came closest to adding the next goal when Nathan Green delivered a great cross but the ball was flicked off Michael Chambers head at the far post.

They then went even closer in the 55th minute. A long range effort from Ibrahim Kargbo was beaten away by Julian with a save low to his left. Ibra Sekajja was first to the loose ball but , when he found Ashley Carew, Julian was able to smother his effortat point blank range.

For the home side, further set plays saw Dulwich forced into some desperate clearances but they held firm and looked to threaten on the break. From one such break Eyong was forced to head a cross from Gavin Tomlin wide as he cut it at the near post.

Billericay were unable to create any real impetus and their desperation was summed up by Byron Lawrence who, given a chance to advance and shoot, fired both high and wide.

With 90 minutes up, a further raft of long throws finally lead to an effort on goal but a slight touch from Preston Edwards took the ball on to the underside of the bar and the rebound was belted clear.

Edwards had to make one more save following a header from another long throw but the final whistle sounded shortly afterwards to signal a well deserved victory for The Hamlet that takes them into the play off places.
