Book Launch Evening at Champion Hill
Launch of The Roaring Red Front takes place this Thursday, 13th October, with the Hamlet featured within the book
On Thursday 13th October, the club will be hosting the official launch event of new football book The Roaring Red Front.
Written by Stewart McGill and Hamlet fan Vince Raison, the book takes a look at clubs around the world with a left-wing, anti-racist and anti-fascist fanbase, and talks to fans of the clubs about what it means to them to be part of this movement, and the connection between football and politics.
The Hamlet feature in the book, alongside big clubs such as Liverpool, Celtic and Boca Juniors, as well as the likes of Velež Mostar from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Detroit City, St Pauli and Rayo Vallecano.
According to the official press release of the book, you will also find the following inside:
- How Andy Capp became a global icon for leftist football ultras
- Why there is a street in Hamburg's 'liberal' St Pauli district from which women are banned
- Skinhead ska fans in Calabria confronting Italy's fascists and singing Millwall songs
- A Palestinian Communist mayor in Santiago de Chile
- The clash of capitalism and community facing Jules Rimet’s historic and romantic institution, Red Star FC, in Paris
- Why the leftist and anti-fascist supporters movement is important and how it can be harnessed, not just by the left, but in the interests of better relations among all our communities
The club will be open from 7 o'clock on Thursday night, with free entry for all, and will feature a Q&A session with Stewart and Vince, led by Mark "Scolly" Scoltock, and then this will be followed by DJ sets from Scolly and former director Tom Cullen late into the evening!
