'BOURNE THIS WAY
After the glister of the FA Cup and the FA Trophy has faded, it is back to the bread and butter of the league with a rearranged trip to Sittingbourne.
Currently staving off bottom spot by dint of a single goal, Sittingbourne have had a strange start to the season following an opening day victory away to league new boys, Three Bridges. A narrow defeat on the long trip down to Folkestone and progression in the FA Cup at the expense of Burnham failed to presage a dire September, enlightened only by a rampant 4-0 demolition of a sorry Horsham side in FA Trophy, compensation perhaps for destruction at the hands of another Sussex side, last season South Division Champions Whitehawk who rammed 5 past the Brickies in to extinguish FA Cup dreams. Meanwhile in the league, the big guns in front of goal were firing blanks, a scoreless draw at another of the new boys, Herne Bay, following by a single goal home defeat at the hands of leatherhead before slipping up at Burgess Hill last Saturday after taking 6th minute lead through Luke Girt goal. A goal for the Hillians back in time added on in the first half levelled matters before a wundergoal on 79 minutes from Ryan Thompson condemned the Brickies to yet another narrow defeat.
For those travelling to Sittingbourne, directions can be found on the Brickies website here (www.sittingbournefc.co.uk/direct.htm).
PLEASE NOTE: Despite heavy rain over the weekend Sittingbourne have said they have no plans for an inspection & described their surface as "pitch perfect".
