With Daniel Carr departed to Leatherhead on loan & Dumebi Dumaka injured, Dulwich used Gavin Tomlin as the attacking focal point. Other than that change this was a full strength line up.
Preston Edwards was a virtual spectator for much of the game only being called into action twice before being beaten by Sheehan's header 3 minutes from time. At the other end, Lewis Moore was regularly called into action but remained unbeaten through a mixture of good saves and poor finishing.
The opening quarter of an hour set the tone for the Match with Dulwich enjoying overwhelming possession but with no cutting edge. It wasn't until the 18th minute that thrre was even a shot on goal, Kenny Beaney seeing his effort blocked .
Three minutes later, good defending prevented Nyren Clunis getting on the end of a cross from the left. Ibra Sekajja then had an overhead effort blocked before George Sykes got free of the Dulwich defence and produced a fine save from Preston Edwards.
However, it was predominantly Dulwich on top as they probed for an opening. Ashley Carew could only find Moore's hands from a low cross and Nyren Clunis fired wide of the near post when he perhaps should have aimed across goal.
Ashley Carew wasted a greal chance when he got clear following a fine long pass. He declined the chance to shoot with his right foot and instead checked back on to his left foot. Having done the hard part, he sliced his effort wide with Moore completely out of position.
Next to squander a clear chance was Gavin Tomlin. In behind the defence, he pushed the ball past Moore and hurdled his challenge but the tight angle this crested meant defenders had time to get back to cover.
Half Time 0-0
The second half started much more evenly as Dulwich's habit of conceding free kicks deep in their own half gave Canvey opportunities to get the ball into the penalty area.
However, it was Dulwich who would continue to create and miss chances. Ashley Carew curled a free kick wide after Ibra Sekajja had been fouled. A Canvey attack that broke down saw Ashley Carew release Ibra Sekajja who then found Gavin Tomlin but he shot straight at Moore.
Ibra Sekajja then wasted a one on one opportunity when he shot far too close to the keeper after being sent clear on goal. Gavin Tomlin then had two efforts straight at Moore
Dulwich had a warning that their wastefulness may come to haunt them when Sykes had a free run on goal but Preston Edwards stood tall to brilliantly tip his effort over.
With 8 minutes remaining, Moore was beaten by a header from his own player but the ball dropped agonisingly wide. Marc Weatherstone then had an effort cleared off the line following a corner before Dulwich fell for the sucker punch.
A free kick was delivered from the Dulwich left and Sheehan was left unmarked to bullet a header past Edwards and secure the three points.
Final Score 1-0
