Community News v Slough Town

Community News v Slough Town

Community Lead Rob Hyneman had this to say in the programme against Slough Town

Good afternoon and welcome to Champion Hill!
I’d like to start today by celebrating the wedding of a season ticket holder and loyal follower of the club for over 70 years. On Saturday 15th December 2018, Ian Falkner married Luisa Parker in Edenbridge. Prior to their special day, Ian’s best man secretly asked us to provide a message to be included in his best man’s speech. Gavin Rose duly obliged and a sent message of best wishes on behalf of the players, fans and club officials. It was received with great delight and appreciation by everyone, not just Ian and Luisa!

His best man, Bernard Oldfield, commented: ‘It was a splendidly happy day, thank you. You get a glimpse of their happiness in the photograph. Ian is older than he looks but I'd better not tell you his age! He is still remarkably active - not just in leading the weekly rambling group - the Edenbridge Strollers - but involvement in all sorts of groups and organisations within the town, such as secretary of Edenbridge Chess Club for about 20 years, and dealing with front of house for the Edenbridge Players (local amateur dramatics group) for at least that long, too. He is a fine example to us all of getting involved and contributing to the life of the local community’.

I’m delighted to say that Ian and Luisa are guests at the game today. The Supporters’ Trust have kindly provided them both with some pink and blue mementos and we hope that by the end the game Luisa will be well and truly part of The Rabble! We’d also like to thank Bernard for getting in touch with us so we could be part of such a special occasion.

Congratulations to Ian and Luisa – we hope you enjoy the game today!

We are always keen to hear about special events in the lives of our fans. If you have a wedding, birthday or anniversary you’d like to celebrate, we’d love to hear from you!

It is also at this point that we’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to our community initiatives this year. The generosity and support of the Hamlet faithful has been incredible. Recent examples include the amount of official DHFC Christmas cards we sold raising money for Redthread and The 12th Man Fund; the kindness of people who donated to our Southwark foodbank appeal and the huge number of fans who packed our new bar at the Supporters’ Trust Christmas party.

We hope you enjoy the game today and look forward to seeing you all in 2019!
Best Wishes
Rob Hyneman
