Community Notes - Wealdstone

Community Notes - Wealdstone

Community lead Rob Hyneman had the following to say in our programme against Wealdstone on Tuesday night

Hello and welcome to Champion Hill!

After what has seemed an incredibly long wait, we are now back and ready for our first home league game of the season. This evening we welcome Wealdstone to East Dulwich in what is sure to be a great atmosphere under the lights of Champion Hill.

Following on from the successes of last season, we have lots of community initiatives planned for the year ahead. We’ll announce more details about these, including our charity partners for this season, in the coming weeks.

Today I’d like to highlight our ‘Walk and Talk’ Event that took place a few Saturdays ago. Prior to our home pre-season fixture against Crystal Palace walked from Selhurst Park to Champion Hill to raise awareness for mental health and male suicide in support of the CALM charity (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Shockingly, male suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK, equating to around 84 men a week. Men in particular find it hard to talk and reach out when they need help and support. This initiative followed a number of ‘Walk and Talk’ events which have been building over the last five years and were started by a group of Fulham fans, known on Twitter as @OriginalsUtd. Our Walk and Talk event allowed us to show that it's alright to not to feel ok and that you are never alone.

Looking forward to the future, this is a key time for our club. As I’m sure you are aware, a planning application has been submitted to Southwark Council for our new stadium. If we want our club to continue to thrive and flourish as a community asset, we need every single fan to support this application. If you only do one thing over the next few weeks, I encourage you to log onto the Southwark Planning website and show your support for this application. There is no script as what we want you to say – talk from the heart and explain what this wonderful club means to you. This is our chance, after all the ups and downs of the last few years, to secure a long term future for Dulwich Hamlet. For more information about the application, please visit the club website or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Finally, I’m pleased to announce that we are continuing our free family ticket offer to local youth and school groups. With the school term not beginning until September, we have a number of upcoming home games available. This includes home games in August and September for both our Men’s and Women’s teams. If you run a summer school or summer camp in Southwark or the surrounding areas, please get in contact with the community team via email - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or Twitter - @DHFC_Community. If your child is attending a summer scheme, tell the person running it to get in contact!

As always, thank you for your fantastic support and I hope you enjoy the game!
