CONCORD RANGERS 3-2 DULWICH HAMLET AET

CONCORD RANGERS 3-2 DULWICH HAMLET AET

Dulwich suffered cup final defeat after twice leading against Premier Division high-fliers Concord Rangers.

Raored on by a large and vociferous following Dulwich settled quickly and took the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Ellis Green received the ball wide on the left before cutting inside and unleashing an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box that flew into the net high to the keepers right.

The shot had clearly gone in but the ball found its way through the goal net and the Concord keeper outrageously tried to claim that the ball had gone wide - the referee was having none of it.

Almost immediately Dulwich had the chance to double their lead as both Erhun Oztumer and Daniel Carr were through with Carr just unable to beat the keeper.

As the half wore on Concord Rangers came more into the game and exerted considerable pressure that was resisted by the Hamlet rearguard who could not be breached.

There was no further score and so Dulwich went in one goal to the good at half time.

The second half opened as the first had closed but good defending and fine goalkeeping kept Concord at bay. However, an equaliser arrived on the hour as a fine ball found a forward free in the box and he confidently beat Chico Ramos in The Hamlet net.

However, it took only a couple of minutes for Dulwich to regain the lead as Ellis Green once again cut in from the left and drilled a low drive past the keeper from the edge of the box.

However, Dulwich couldn't see the game through as Ethan Pinnock conceded a free kick just outside the penalty area and a delightful free kick was floated over the wall and past the despairing dive of Chico Ramos.

And so to extra time. There was no score in the first period although Ellis Green continued to have the beating of his full back whenever The Hamlet were able to get the ball to him.

The winner arrived early in the second period as the referee awarded a hotly disputed free kick to the left of the Dulwich box when there appeared to be no contact with the attacker. The free kick was floated in and scrambled home for what proved to be the winner.

Dulwich continued to compete well with their higher ranked opponents but could find no way back and close to the end Luke Hickie was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

Whilst The Hamlet were unable to claim the cup, the man of the match award deservedly went to Ellis Green for his two goals and outstanding performance on the night.
