CONCORD RANGERS 4-3 DULWICH HAMLET (AET)

CONCORD RANGERS 4-3 DULWICH HAMLET (AET)

Dulwich can count themselves very unfortunate to have bowed out of the FA Trophy as they controlled proceedings for long periods.

The Hamlet side lined up minus the influential duo of Kevin James and Lewis Gonsalves; Ethan Pinnock replacing Gonsalves at the back and Kershaney Samuels patrolling central midfield in tandem with Billy Crook.

It was the home side that opened the brighter as Dulwich were put under pressure by the more physically imposing home side. However, The Hamlet looked to have played their way into the game and weathered the early pressure when they fell behind to a fine low shot from James White.

However, within a couple of minutes they were level as Ian Daly found Erhun Oztumer on the left and his cross was converted by Dean Lodge at the far post.

There were no further goals up to half time as both sides took turns to attack without either keeper being seriously tested but Dulwich were caught cold at the start of the second half as Sam Higgins was set free through the middle and thumped the ball past Phil Wilson.

Rather than deflate The Hamlet, this resulted in them taking total charge of the game and Jamie Butler in The Beachboys goal was much the busier keeper as Dulwich pushed their hosts back; his best stop being from a Mathieu Boyer header.

After sustained pressure Dulwich thought they had levelled matters as Jerome Walker, who had replaced the injured Nyren Clunis late in the first half, got away on the left and pulled the ball back for the unmarked Dean Lodge to thump home. However, despite the ball being delivered back from the touchline the Assistant deemed him to be offside.

Dulwich continued to press but as the game entered stoppage time it appeared that all the attacking play would go unrewarded until Jerome Walker got away on the Dulwich right and his cross was swept home by Ian Daly.

And so to extra time in which Dulwich continued to dominate without the goal that their play deserved. As the game drifted towards penalties Concord became an attacking force again and struck twice in the closing moments. First Reece Harris fired through a crowd of players and then Sam Higgins was left unmarked to score.

That seemed to mark the end but Dulwich went straight up the other end where substitute Xavier Vidal was set free on goal. His first effort was saved by Butler as he dived bravely at Vidal's feet but the ball ricocheted back on to him and looped up towards goal. As Vidal chased it the ball bounced and hit the outside of the post but he somehow managed to twist and volley home from a tight angle.

However there wasn't enough time to get the equaliser that was the least that The Hamlet deserved.
