Dulwich Hamlet 1-0 Billericay Town

Dulwich Hamlet 1-0 Billericay Town

A stoppage time goal from new loan signing Rhys Murrell-Williamson gave Dulwich the points just as it seemed they would have to settle for a point.

Charlie Penny made his first start in place of Albert Jarrett and Jordan Hibbert reverted to right back in place of the injured Osei Sankofa.

Dulwich were on the back foot early and in the 3rd minute.
Phil Wilson had to be quick off his line to clear in front of Sodje, following a poor back pass from Danny Waldren. A minute later Billericay had another chance as Williams crossed from the right and the unmarked Cojocarel fired over the top.

Dulwich had their first chance in the 6th minute but Jacob Erskine couldn't capitalise on Williams short back pass. Ashley Carew then fired straight at the keeper, Nyren Clunis also saw an effort saved by Giddens and Charlie Penny fired the rebound too high.

Charlie Penny then capitalised on a weak back header but Giddens clawed his effort away. The keeper also made a good save from an Erskine shot that was goal bound. At the other end Sodje rounded Wilson but his effort was blocked by Matt Drage.

Clunis produced a cross that flashed across the goal evading both Erskine & Penny but the game saw fewer chances as the half wore on and finished with neither team looking likely to score.

Half Time 0-0

The second half followed a similar pattern with Billericay keeping Dulwich away from the danger areas and looking the more dangerous side going forward. Matt Drage did well to prevent a scoring chance following an error from Mitchell Nelson, whilst the only Dulwich effort of note was a shot from Jordan Hibbert that was easily saved.

Ex Hamlet player Tom Derry wasted one good chance when he fired wide when well placed and was denied the opening goal in the 71st minute by an amazing save from Phil Wilson. Harry Baker crossed from the Dulwich left and Derry met his cross with a volley from 6 yards out that Wilson somehow pushed over the top.

Gavin Rose introduced new signing Rhys Murrell-Williamson from the bench and he was baulked in the box with 15 minutes left. However, the referee was unmoved by the penalty appeal.

It looked like the visitors would take the lead with 2 minutes left when the ball found substitute Lewis Manor alone in front of goal. However, Hamlet sub Kristian Campbell blocked his effort.

With 6 minutes remaining Derry had another header from a corner that was calmly trapped and then volleyed off the line by Kevin James.

The game seemed destined to be goalless until deep into the four minutes of stoppage time. A long ball forward was headed clear by the visitors defence but Kevin James bravely won a header that reached Murrell-Williamson on the right edge of the penalty area. He turned inside and curled a left footed effort beyond the static Giddens and into the far corner to snatch a dramatic victory for The Hamlet.
