Dulwich Hamlet 1-0 Leatherhead
Dulwich gained revenge for their defeat at Leatherhead only 2 weeks ago with a win that was more emphatic than the scoreline suggests.
Gavin Rose shuffled his side again with Matt Drage starting in the unfamiliar right back position & Jordan Hibbert displaying his versatility by featuring at left back.
Following his match winning goal on Saturday, Rhys Murrell-Williamson made his first start with Charlie Penny reverting to the bench.
Dulwich were bright and inventive from the start and Nyren Clunis was almost played into a scoring position in the opening minute.
Both the Dulwich wide players were creating problems for the visitors with Murrell-Williamson in particular proving unplayable for left back Green.
Dulwich did suffer a blow in only the 16th minute when Jacob Erskine limped off to be replaced by Charlie Penny but they put this setback behind them as they probed for the breakthrough.
Murrell-Williamson combined with Drage whose effort was weak before Murrell-Williamson gave the home side the lead in the 30th minute with another outstanding solo goal.
Picking up the ball midway inside the Leatherhead half he ran through the defence and fired his shot left footed past Wells. However, the ball struck the post and rolled across the goal before he followed up to finish with a right foot effort that evaded the covering defenders.
Murrell-Williamson then had an effort that was just too high after cutting in from the right and Charlie Penny was just wide with a lob over the advancing Wells.
Murrell-Williamson again cut in from the left and this time his effort was deflected just over before he turned provider as his cross just evaded both Waldren & Penny.
Right on half time, Phil Wilson had to make his first save of the night as he comfortably held a free kick from 25 yards.
Half Time 1-0
The second half saw the match continue in a similar fashion. In the 50th minute a raking cross field pass from Ashley Carew found Nyren Clunis. He stepped inside his marker but his shot struck the bar.
Murrell-Williamson was just beaten to a through ball by Wells and, just past the hour mark, Clunis was played through the middle by a delightful ball from Kevin James. However, he was thwarted one on one as he shot too close to the keeper.
Having escaped going two behind Leatherhead began to be seen a little more as an attacking force. Drage did well to thwart Hughes-Mason and a corner caused confusion in the Dulwich defence that saw the visitors spurn two chances. The first was miscued from 6 yards out and when the ball found its way across goal it was blasted wastefully wide. Leatherhead would not get as close again.
Dulwich created, and missed, further opportunities to make the win more comfortable as Clunis turned on the edge of the box and fired wide, Calum Willock brought a fine save from Wells and Murrell-Williamson had a shot deflected just over.
