Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Burgess Hill Town
A goal from substitute Ryan Moss eight minutes from time rescued a point for The Hamlet.
Gavin Rose made only one change to the team that defeated Wingate & Finchley; Ethan Pinnock returning to the starting line-up in place of Mitchell Nelson.
Dulwich pressed in the opening quarter of an hour without any clear chances. Matt Drage shot wide, Ashley Carew'stepped free kick was too close to the keeper and a flowing move, starting with Preston Edwards and flowing through Jack Dixon & Damian Scannell, saw Dean McDonald fire just wide.
McDonald had a 24th minute effort blocked before the visitors took the lead in the 28th minute. Lee Harding was afforded too much space to deliver a cross from the visitors right side, Jack Dixon headed clear but the ball was met on the volley by Joe Keehan whose shot flew past the unsighted Preston Edwards.
This setback took Dulwich out of their stride and the rest of the half contained little of note from either side as The Hamlet 's slow and narrow build up play was easily repelled by the visitors.
Half Time 0-1
Burgess Hill opened the second half well and pushed Dulwich back but, like the home side, didn't manage to trouble Preston Edwards in the home goal.
In fact, it was Dulwich that should have made better use of the first chance created five minutes into the half. Matt Drage hit a raking ball forward that dropped perfectly for Nyren Clunis. However, he had his effort saved by Josh Jones.
Six minutes later Drage hit an equally impressive pass to the same player but this time the effort from Clunis was blocked whilst, a minute later, Chris Smith blasted over for the visitors.
Ashley Carew tried to reprise his free kick from the previous Tuesday but Jones saved low to his right. Pat Harding had an effort too high for the visitors.
Damian Scannell was deemed to have been pulled back right on the edge of the penalty area but Carew's effort was deflected wide and McDonald forced a good low save from Jones as Dulwich pushed for a goal.
Dulwich made attacking substitutions to try to find a way back into the game and it was one of the substitutes that provided the equaliser. Ashley Carew delivered a cross from the left and Ryan Moss rose to head it home.
However, that was as good as it got for The Hamlet and it was the visitors who went closest to grabbing a winner when Edwards was beaten to the ball in the penalty area but the resultant cross was scrambled away.
