Dulwich Hamlet 1-2 Charlton Athletic
Dulwich suffered their first pre-season defeat against a Charlton Athletic side that included all their first team squad,
The Hamlet are still experimenting with their line-up in the lead up to the new season and they again used a number of yet to be signed players in their squad.
In a fairly even match, it was Charlton who looked the more threatening early one, particularly through Lyle Taylor who troubled the home side with his movement.
He shot just too high in the 14th minute but made no mistake when found in space a minute later, collecting the ball and finishing low past Preston Edwards from 15 yards out.
Dulwich could have been level five minutes later but for a fine reflex save by Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips. Nyren Clunis got a cross in from the right and a deflection off his own defender forced him to save smartly low down.
Chances were at a premium and it was Taylor again who saw Preston Edwards this time save his effort, whilst Jake Forster-Caskey fired too high. However, Dulwich leveled the scores in the 37th minute with a stunning strike from Byron Lawrence.
Picking up the ball 30 yards out, the Dulwich midfielder let fly with a shot that flew past Phillips and crashed in off the post.
Half Time 1-1
The second half again saw little between the teams even once a raft of changes were made. The winner coming when a low cross was turned in at the far post by Forster-Caskey, before The Hamlet were denied a penalty when one of the trialist appeared to be brought down by the Charlton keeper.
Jay May, on as a substitute, also saw a close range shot saved, whilst Dipo Akinyemi seemed to be brought down when trying to turn home the rebound.
With the raft of changes, the game drifted to its conclusion and both sides will be happy with their workout.
Final Score 1-2
