Dulwich Hamlet 1-2 Guiseley
Dulwich exited the FA Trophy but came within inches of forcing a replay in front of another bumper gate of 1949 at Champion Hill.
Dulwich gave their Vanarama National League opponents a fright before bowing out. Having gone two goals behind inside the first half an hour they came within inches of forcing a replay in stoppage time.
The Hamlet opened brightly with Nyren Clunis having a first minute shot that drifted wide, nd Guiseley defender Danny Lowe nearly putting an Ashley Carew free kick through his own goal in a defensive mix up.
Mitchell Nelson got free on the right but his cross was behind everybody and Jordan Hibbert was unable to get his shot away. Albert Jarrett then had a good chance but his ninth minute effort was curled too high after he found himself in space.
Having looked nervous in the first 10 minutes, the visitors then got a foothold in the match and, from the game's first corner, Tom Craddock headed wide when well placed. However, within a minute of that let off they were in front.
Dulwich failed to clear a 13th minute corner further than the edge of the box and James Hurst placed his shot past Phil Wilson, giving the keeper no chance.
Dulwich began to look a little ragged and Hurst fired a 21st minute shot too high after a rare error from Danny Waldren. Anthony Dudley then forced a good save from Phil Wilson as he seized on a slip by Mitchell Nelson.
Dulwich briefly threatened as Steve Drench was forced to save a good effort from Danny Waldren's 26th minute shot but fell two goals behind just a minute later. The Dulwich defence again failed to close down as the ball broke to Dudley and his deflected effort gave Phil Wilson no chance.
A rare slip by Ethan Pinnock in the 34th minute looked sure to have presented Guiseley with a third goal but Phil Wilson foiled Adam Boyes one on one.
Albert Jarrett had another effort that went wide following good work from Jordan Hibbert, before Boyes again faced up Wilson one on one for the second time in as many minutes, but the result was exactly the same as the keeper kept out his effort.
Oliver Norburn wasted another chance for Guiseley before Dulwich rallied as the half drew to a close. Nyren Clunis found himself in space as he pulled down a cross from the right but Drench produced a fantastic save to keep out his low shot. An Ashley Carew free kick was deflected on to the roof of the net and, from the resulting corner, the same player floated the ball in and Mitchell Nelson rose to head home his third goal in consecutive games.
Half Time 1-2
James Hurst had a chance to extend Guiseley's lead just three minutes into the second half but Wilson was again equal to his effort.
Dulwich pushed forward and Dean McDonald produced a skillful and determined run into the penalty area that seemed to have taken him clear on goal before he looked to be shoved over from behind. However strong appeals from The Hamlet players and fans failed to move the officials.
Phil Wilson then produced another good stop after Danny Waldren lost the ball under pressure on the edge of the penalty area before the game went into a bit of a lull.
Ashley Carew was just wide with a long range free kick in the 65th minute and Nyren Clunis had a chance in the 72nd minute as Guiseley were forced back. Dean McDonald had an effort deflected wide as it looked destined for the top corner and Mitchell Nelson headed on to the roof of the net.
Gavin Rothery riled captain Danny Waldren with a lunging two footed tackle but again the officials viewed it differently and booked both players for the flare up.
As the game entered stoppage time Ashley Carew delivered another pinpoint corner that Nelson headed on to the post with McDonald's follow up blocked on the line.
