With Michael Chambers still not fit to start, Dulwich continued with a back four. They were also without the injured Dumebi Dumaka, whilst Gavin Tomlin started his 4 match suspension that will keep him out until the new year and with Vas Karagiannis recalled by Maidstone United there was a recall for Ibra Sekajja. There were also places on the bench for new loan signings from Charlton Athletic, Louis-Michel Yamfam & Chris Millar and captain Kenny Beaney returned.
In front of a bumper crowd of 1541, the game was one from which Dulwich should have secured at least a point. Tonbridge opened brightly although without creating any chances of note, although they were almost gifted a goal in the 9th minute when Nathan Green left his header back to Preston Edwards short but the Hamlet keeper blocked from Scannell.
As Dulwich began to play some neat football, Danny Carr was fouled just outside the box but Ashley Carew couldn't take advantage.
It was a surprise when Tonbridge took a 25th minute lead as Dulwich couldn't clear effectively and Matt Drage's poor clearance presented Tom Parkinson with the chance to fire low to Preston Edwards right.
Dulwich went in search of an equaliser and Sanchez Ming had a cross headed off the line, whilst visiting keeper Di Bernardo made a fine block when Nyren Clunis was sent clear by a flick from Danny Carr.
However, Tonbridge were always quick to spring from defence to attack and, from one such swift break, Damien Scannell was foiled by Preston Edwards.
For The Hamlet, Ashley Carew couldn't get his shot on target from the edge of the penalty area and a Nathan Green cross flashed across goal without getting the touch that would have resulted in an equaliser, following a fine long pass from Matt Drage.
Half Time 0-1
Dulwich came out sesrching for an equaliser and Danny Carr was just wide with a 47th minute effort. However, they were level just two minutes later. A pass from Danny Carr found Ibra Sekajja on the right and his low shot was turned into his own net by ex Hamlet player Mitchell Nelson.
Dulwich were now in the ascendancy, although Nyren Clunis failed to capitalise on a couple of chances as he was outmuscled when breaking clear on the left.
Ashley Carew then had a free kick saved and Danny Carr saw his effort blocked. When Tonbridge did threaten, Sanchez Ming was alert to any danger.
With 10 minutes to play Tonbridge were reduced to 10 men as Damien Scannell was sent off as he attempted to stop Nyren Clunis breaking clear; with the referee playing advantage before going back to book him for the second time after Di Bernardo had saved well from Clunis.
Dulwich pushed for a winner and Danny Carr was just wide when he met an Ashley Carew cross. However, it was Tonbridge who would steal the points when two substitutes combined to fashion the winner. Yamfam was indecisive in clearing for Dulwich and Matt Drage conceded a free kick as a result. Wheeler floated it into the box and Alex Akrofi flicked it home.
With the game in stoppage time Dulwich had a chance to level when Matt Drage played a long ball that was met on the volley by Ashley Carew but his effort grazed the post.
