Dulwich Hamlet 1-4 Millwall XI
Dulwich suffered a home defeat to a Millwall XI that was more ruthless in front of goal.
The scoreline certainly did not reflect the game as The Hamlet enjoyed significant amounts of possession without being able to turn it into goals.
Millwall had the better of the opening quarter of an hour and as early as the second minute Lewis Gonslaves conceded possession but Phil Wilson rushed from his line to block Alfie Pavey's shot and Alex Woodyard blazed the follow up over the bar. Th next good chance also fell to Millwall as Aiden O'Brien blazed wide with just the keeper to beat and it wasn't until the 19th minute that Tom Beadle in the Millwall goal was called into action as he unconvincingly dealt with a cross into the box but he dealt much better with a fierce Jerome Walker shot in the next Dulwich attack.
Dulwich were now cominmg more into the match and an Erhun Oztumer free kick was deflected wide before Jerome Walker marauded down the right but his low cross passed without touch across the six yard box. Billy Crook had a shot blocked after more good work from Walker who was giving Millwall left back Callum Webb a torrid evening.
Therefore, it was a surprise when Millwall took the lead on the half hour as Billy Crook and Mathieu Boyer tangled with Walter Figuera in the box and the referee awarded what looked like a soft spot kick. Phil Wilson dived to his left to save Aiden O'Brien's penalty but unluckily the rebound fell to O'Brien who scored.
On 33 minutes a second goal arrived as poor defending let in O'Brien to score whilst on 43 minutes Alfie Pavey added a third with Dulwich appealing for an offside decision that didn't come.
Half Time 0-3
The second half was less than a minute old when Alfie Pavey was sent through but his shot cannoned out off the post whilst Phil Wilson also had to be alert during a 49th minute scramle in the six yard box.
Dulwich almost pulled one back as Ellis Green delivered a good cross from the left but Harry Ottaway and Jerome Walker both failed to get sufficient contact to trouble Beadle. In fact it was Millwall who added a 4th as more poor defending allowed Fred Onyedinma to score from inside the six yard box after a cut back from the left.
It was past the hour before another Hamlet chance as Erhun Oztumer's header was unable to beat the keeper and an Ellis Green cross from the right was headed out from under the bar with Harry Ottaway just unable to apply a touch and Erhun Oztumer also dragged a shot on the run wide.
Dulwich did get the goal their play deserved on 75 minutes as this time a mistake at the back by Millwall allowed Erhun Oztumer to win the ball and then advance to the edge of the box before exquisitely chipping the keeper. Within a minute, Jerome Walker fired just wide.
The Hamlet gained momentum from the goal and Paul Vines could easily have been awarded a penalty after a challenge in the box and Billy Crook fired just wide.
Whilst the game was played in a good spirit there were a number of robust challenges reflected in the fact that the referee awarded 23 free kicks against Millwall whilst only 4 offences were committed by The Hamlet.
