Dulwich Hamlet 11-0 Haringey Borough

Dulwich Hamlet 11-0 Haringey Borough

Dulwich Hamlet reached eleventh heaven to go through to the next round of the Capital Cup on Sunday afternoon

Ana De Pellegrin and Sarah Milner scored four goals each as Dulwich Hamlet cruised to victory over Haringey Borough. It was a dominant performance and a fitting tribute to their coach Farouk Menia, who passed away recently and was remembered with a minute’s silence at the start of the game.

Dulwich were rampant in the first half and De Pellegrin had already scored twice within the first ten minutes. She completed her hat-trick with a powerful penalty that thumped in off the bar.

Sarah Milner then scored a hat-trick of her own in just four minutes - quite possibly the quickest ever hat-trick scored at Champion Hill. Her pace was a constant menace for the Haringey back-line, who struggled to keep a handle on a front three of Milner, De Pellegrin and Liz Wicks, who was returning from several months on the sidelines.

De Pellegrin added a fourth for herself, getting on the end of an excellent ball from captain Rosie Stone, while Milner matched her by breaking the offside trap to make it 8-0 just before half-time.

The pick of the bunch was scored by Lucy Monkman, who came on after the break, and scored a beautiful chip from around 25 yards out. Ella Wales Bonner, another half-time rotation, also added her name to the scoresheet, firing it into the top corner with precision. Meanwhile, debutant Havana McElvaine continued to cause problems for Haringey down the left channel.

Fittingly, Wicks was able to finish off her comeback game with a goal in the dying minutes of the game, a deserved reward for an excellent performance that reminiscent of her early season form.

Speaking after the game on her four-goal haul, Milner said, “I’m just happy to be getting on the score sheet, I think yesterday was a massive team performance. It was an incredibly emotional day for everyone out there and I’m just so proud of all of the girls.”

“I think we all knew who and what we were playing for, Farouk was behind each and everyone of our 11 goals. I’m loving playing football at the moment and that’s all to do with my spicy family and the amazing support we have from the Dulwich massive!”

The result means Dulwich are through to the second round of the Capital Women's Senior Cup.

Dulwich are away to Fulham next weekend in the League, at Motspur Park Training Ground with a 2.30pm kick-off. Fulham have asked that tickets for this game are purchased in advance and full details can be found here.
