Dulwich Hamlet 2-0 Lowestoft Town
Goals in each half from Ellis Green and an Erhun Oztumer penalty gave 10 man Dulwich a win over pre season championship favourites Lowestoft Town.
Dulwich opened very slowly and were pegged back from the first whistle as Lowestoft refused to let them settle and the game was only 3 minutes old when a clumsy challenge from Mathieu Boyer saw the referee point to the spot.
Lowestoft skipper Dan Gleeson stepped up but his weak penalty was easily saved by Phil Wilson diving to his right.
Things got little better for The Hamlet and they were indebted to Phil Wilson in the home goal for keeping the scores level in the opening 25 minutes.
However, just prior to the half hour The Hamlet finally started to establish a foothold in the game with Harry Ottaway prominent up front on his debut.
On 26 minutes Dulwich grabbed the lead as Harry Ottaway was sent clear and appeared to be brought down by the onrushing Lowestoft keeper. As everybody hesitated the ball broke to Ellis Green who drove the loose ball home.
It was Ottaway who next went close from an Ellis Green cross and then Dean Lodge found Ellis Green in the box but his shot was brilliantly saved by Ashlee Jones in the Lowestoft goal.
As the half drew to a close The Hamlet created 2 good chances as first Harry Ottaway flicked a fine header into the path of Dean Lodge whose precise finish was for nothing as the Assistant Referee had flagged him offside.
Then Kevin James floated a precise free kick into the box where Ottaway timed his run perfectly but he could not been Jones who produced a spectacular save.
The second half opened with Lowestoft again on top but Jack Ainsley was denied by Phil Wilson and could only poke the rebound wide.
Ten minutes into the half the game appeared to take a decisive twist as Ellis Green retaliated to a foul challenge in midfield and received a straight red card.
However, it was at this point that Dulwich started to find their passing accuracy and with some astute substitutions from Gavin Rose The Hamlet looked comfortable with 10 men.
A minute after the sending off, Harry Ottaway went close from a Kevin James free kick whilst at the other end Phil Wilson saved from Chris Henderson.
The decisive moment arrived in the 73rd minute as Jerome Wal;ker was sent on to add pace up front and with his first touch he drew a clumsy foul that led to the referee pointing to the spot. Erhun Oztumer stepped up to make no mistake from the spot.
Dulwich then held out with few alarms although Lowestoft substitute Bradley Woods-Garness did get in behind the defence with 9 minutes remaining but Phil Wilson was not be be beaten.
