DULWICH HAMLET 2-0 MAIDSTONE UNITED

DULWICH HAMLET 2-0 MAIDSTONE UNITED

Dulwich produced probably their best result of the season to move above their visitors in the table.

A goal in either half from wingers Nyren Clunis and Jerome Walker secured the points for Dulwich in a high-quality game in which Maidstone tested them throughout.

Manager Gavin Rose named an unchanged starting line-up with new signing Nathaniel Pinney on the bench.

It was Maidstone who opened by far the brighter although in a rare home attack Billy Crook struck a drive from outside the box that was just too high. However, Maidstone were very unlucky not to take the lead as a quick break saw a drive from Fabio Saraiva strike the post with Mathieu Boyer getting back to block the follow-up.

Peter Adeniyi, who was imperious throughout, then carried the ball from back to front but, having set up Erhun Oztumer, the diminutive playmaker struck his shot straight into the midriff of Stones keeper Worgan.

Dulwich grabbed the lead on 34 minutes as Kevin James slipped the ball into the box for Nyren Clunis who twisted past his marker and swept the ball past Worgan from 10 yards.

At the other end, Phil Wilson had to be swiftly off his line to produce a great block to preserve the lead.

Half Time 1-0

The second half almost saw Dulwich increase their lead straight away as Worgan mishit a clearance but Ian Daly's touch let him down some 30 yards out but with the keeper way out of his goal. Erhun Oztumer then twice went close before, on 58 minutes, Ian Daly slipped a delightful pass was to Jerome Walker who accelerated away from a defender some 30 yards from goal and finished emphatically.

Dulwich came close to a third as a defence splitting pass from Peter Adeniyi set Erhun Oztumer into space and his shot beat Worgan but struck the post. At the other end Phil Wilson mischief a clearance but redeemed himself with a fantastic save from the resulting shot.

Wilson also collided with Adeniyi as they both looked to deal with a dangerous through ball but was able to resume after a long stoppage for treatment.

Maidstone had a real chance to get back in the game as Frannnie Collin turned sharply in the box but the normally deadly striker could only fire over.

With the game entering 6 minutes of stoppage time Wilson was forced into one last save but was unable to hold on to the shot. With the ball tantalisingly free on the six yard line, Lewis Gonsalves hacked clear to ensure that there would be no late drama.

Final Score 2-0
