Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 Lewes

Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 Lewes

Dulwich secured victory in their final home league game of the season with 2 goals late in the first half.

Dulwich fans were pleased to see Dipo Akinyemi back in the starting line up, along with Kevin James, against already relegated Lewes.

Watched by a season's high attendance of 2467, Lewes were much the more fluent side in the early stages with Ethan Pinnock having to block a shot & Jonte Smith flashing an effort across the six yard box. Conlon also wasted a good chance to get in a cross and Smith produced a tame effort.

Dulwich were really struggling to make any impact, although there were flashes from Clunis, he was let down by his final ball. In fact, it was the 37th minute before they produced any coherent play, Matt Drage stepping out from the back found Akinyemi, who in turn found Clunis but the cross was blocked.

Therefore, it came as a bit of a surprise when Dulwich took a 40th minute lead. Akinyemi's determined run and driven cross were scrambled home by Nyren Clunis at the second attempt.

Dulwich doubled their lead right on half time. Ashley Carew's shot from a free kick was blocked but Dipo Akinyemi reacted fastest and crossed to the back post, where Ethan Pinnock rose to head home.

Half Time 2-0

Dulwich were quickly out of the blocks in the second half. Ashley Carew's free kick from wide on the right was met by a Kevin James header that Winterton did brilliantly to tip over and another Carew free kick was easily saved.

Nyren Clunis did not make the most of a good opening and Akinyemi had a chance that was saved although, if he had not stayed on his feet when clearly fouled, he may have been awarded a penalty. Clunis also had another good chance that was blocked as The Hamlet were thwarted in their efforts to add another goal.

With 10 minutes remaining Lewes halved the deficit. Preston Edwards made a fine save low to his left to keep out an effort from Hammond. However, Dulwich failed to deal with the resulting corner and Coppola thumped home at the far post.

Clunis had another chance after more fine play from Carew, whilst the home side were able to keep Lewes from testing Edwards in the Dulwich goal.
