Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 Margate
A penalty in the second minute of stoppage time from Ashley Carew gave Dulwich victory over their higher league opponents.
Gavin Rose brought in Albert Jarrett & Damian Scannell whilst leaving Rhys Murrell-Williamson & Dan Sweeney on the bench; although they were to play a major role in the victory when introduced to the action.
Dulwich were first on the attack and came close in the opening minute but it was Margate who were to go on and dominate the first half. Danny Green couldn't control a Christian Jolley cross to the near post in an early attack from the visitors.
Margate came close to taking the lead in the 8th minute as a fine cross shot came out off the far post. Phil Wilson then did brilliantly to get across his goal and foil the follow up effort from Jolley with a save low to his left.
At the other end Danny Waldren was just off target with a header from an Ashley Carew corner & Nyren Clunis flashed an effort across goal.
Margate got stronger as the half progressed but Ethan Pinnock & Matt Drage held firm, whilst Wilson made a couple of good saves. However, the pressure told in the 29th minute as Ladapo received the ball in the box and expertly rolled his shot into the far corner of the net.
Dulwich began to get a foothold in the game as half time approached with both Ryan Moss & Damian Scannell just too high with headers.
Half Time 0-1
The second half was slow to warm up although Jolley shot wide five minutes into the half after a low cross from the Margate left found him at the far post.
Dulwich finally tested Bull in the Margate goal on the hour but he comfortably saved Scannell's header from a Jarrett cross. For Margate Taylor had a shot narrowly wide but the tide turned in Dulwich's favour in the last 20 minutes.
Damian Scannell headed wide from a Nyren Clunis cross in the 71st minute and Ryan Moss came close to getting on the end of another Clunis cross before Dulwich drew level in the 74th minute.
Ashley Carew delivered a free kick into the box and a poor defensive header landed at the feet of Ethan Pinnock whose powerful effort squirmed underneath Bull and over the line.
It was now Dulwich who looked the more likely winners. Dan Sweeney almost played in Ryan Moss & Moss headed a Jordan Brown cross wide. With five minutes remaining Sweeney saw his low shot pushed aside by Bull and in the last two minutes Dean McDonald just failed to get on the end of a Ryan Moss cross from the right. Rhys Murrell-Williamson had a last minute effort blocked and Moss came close again as Dulwich pressed for a winner.
However, with four minutes of stoppage time just signalled, a through ball played Jolley in on goal but Phil Wilson came out to time his interception and pluck the ball off his toe.
The ball was almost immediately at the other end and Nyren Clunis ran at Sam Rents. He slipped as Clunis looked to come inside him and then handled the ball on the ground. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and, as the majority of the 1479 crowd seemed to hold their breath, Ashley Carew stepped up to score and take Dulwich into the next round.
