With Ashley Carew & Daniel Carr unavailable Gavin Tomlin was deployed as a lone striker, Kadell Daniel in the floating role with Nyren Clunis & Roman Michael-Percil on the flanks.
Dulwich were bright in the early stages without being able to create any real chances. Great control by Gavin Tomlin created a shooting chance for Kadell Daniel that led to a save from Jones,
A short corner routine between Tomlin and Daniel saw Jones have to make smart save at his near post as Dulwich looked to break the deadlock.
It was the 17th minute before the visitors put together any fluidity in attack; Dan Pearse forced a corner and Sam Gargan got on the end of it but put a tame effort wide.
Nyren Clunis missed a good headed chance at the back post after Kadell Daniel had whipped in a cross from the right. Great inter play between Nathan Green and Daniel freed Gavin Tomlin but he was unable to get around Jones. Ibrahim Kargbo had a header blocked at the far post from another Daniel cross and Michael Chambers blasted the follow up over the bar.
Kadell Daniel and Gavin Tomlin were continually creating problems for The Hillians defence and the former fired another effort just over before Dulwich took the lead with two minutes of the half remaining; and it was one of the best Champion Hill has seen.
Michael Chambers passed a long ball forwards to Gavin Tomlin and, with the ball dropping over his shoulder, his first touch pulled it out of the air with his right foot and his second rolled it past Jones with his left. It truly was a goal that would have had the television pundits in raptures.
Half Time 1-0
Dulwich were quickly back on the attack at the start of the second half; Nyren Clunis having a shot blocked within a minute of the restart. Two minutes later Gavin Tomlin was unable to turn in a cross after Roman Michael-Percil had got beyond his marker again; the pace on the cross being too much for him to divert it towards goal.
Nyren Clunis was also too high with an effort after he was also set up by Roman Michael-Percil and Nathan Green blazed over when set up by a Michael Chambers knock down as Dulwich wasted a number of chances to establish a two goal cushion.
Burgess Hill showed they still had belief they could get back in the game when Daniel Thompson shot wide when well placed and then just shy of the hour they drew level.
A long throw into the box was headed clear as far as Dan Pearse whose volley from 25 yards crashed in off the bar despite Preston Edwards getting a touch.
In fact, Dulwich probably should have gone behind in the 64th minute when Burgess Hill broke quickly from a corner but this time Pearse wasted the opportunity with a tame effort that went harmlessly wide.
Dulwich were unable to re-establish their earlier superiority and were floundering against strong defence until Alex Teniola was introduced for his debut from the bench. Within a minute he galloped away down the fight and his low cross was diverted past his own keeper by Cheick Toure.
With ten minutes remaining Clunis wasted a good opportunity after being set clear on the right and, within a minute, the same player crossed for Teniola to rise high but please, antique his header beyond Jones but back off the post.
As time ran down it seemed that Dulwich would get the three points their performance deserved. However, in stoppage time the visitors forced a corner from which James Richmond forced the ball home past a statuesque defence to force the ball home and secure a fortuitous point for The Hillians.
Final Score 2-2
