Dulwich Hamlet 4-0 Cray Wanderers

Dulwich Hamlet 4-0 Cray Wanderers

Despite not being at their most fluent Dulwich completed a comfortable victory to maintain their impressive start to the season.

Dean Lodge came close to giving The Hamlet an early lead but couldn't keep his header down after good work from Ellis Green on the left, whilst at the other end Phil Wilson had to be quick off his line to save from Tommy Whitnell as he was sent clear.

It was Dulwich who opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Ellis Green was allowed to advance from midway inside the Cray half unchallenged before sending an unstoppable shot beyond the dive of Andy Walker in the Wanderers goal.

For long periods of the half Dulwich failed to keep possession and so created little and they were indebted to Phil Wilson for preserving the lead as he was well positioned to clutch a Leigh Bremner header.

As half time approached The Hamlet found more fluency and a lovely sweeping end to end move involving Kevin James, Ellis Green and Billy Crook came close to releasing Dean Lodge on goal. Good work by Harry Ottaway and Erhun Oztumer saw Ellis Green in behind the defence but Walker was out smartly to stop.

Just as half time approached the cushion of a second goal arrived as a corner was only cleared to the edge of the area where Erhun Oztumer struck an unstoppable rising drive with his right foot into the net.

The second half saw an early injury to Ellis Green and he was replaced by Nyren Clunis who would have scored but for a fine save at his near post by Walker. Dean Lodge then produced the miss of the season as he rounded the keeper but with the goal gaping he screwed his shot horribly wide.

The third goal that would seal the game arrived as Erhun Oztumer delivered a cross that Harry Ottaway chested down and then thumped emphatically past the keeper from 10 yards. Erhun Oztumer then added a fourth as a great cross from Kevin James found him ghosting in behind a static defence and he headed powerfully home.

Cray's evening then got worse as centre half Danny Young collected 2 yellow cards in a matter of minutes to earn himself first use of the showers.
