Dulwich Hamlet 4-0 Harrow Borough
Dulwich were ultimately comfortable winners as they took advantage of Harrow being reduced to ten men for almost the whole of the second half
Dulwich were some way off full strength with the ever reliable Ethan Pinnock and inspirational captain Danny Waldren both missing through injury. Osei Sankofa came back into the starting line up with Jack Dixon to cover their absence.
Harrow opened the brighter of the sides and Lewis Driver was almost played in behind the home defence inside the opening five minutes. Dulwich were struggling to put any coherent moves together and it was past the quarter of an hour mark before they threatened. An Ashley Carew cross from a corner being headed wide by Mitchell Nelson.
At the other end, Nelson had to be alert to clear a sangerous cross into the six yard box and Driver headed wide from a free kick that had left him with only Wilson to beat.
However as the half hour mark approached Dulwich began to threaten. First, Ashley Carew delivered a magnificent free kick that Nelson headed wide and then a Ryan Moss flick on released Damian Scannell but Borough keeper Brendan Hazlett saved well. Jordan Hibbert then delivered a cross that his fellow full back Nelson headed over at the far post.
A poor pass in midfield laid the ball straight to Charles-Smith who ran at the retreating defence befor shooting, only for Phil Wilson to produce a great save as he closed down the angle.
Dulwich took the lead much against the run of play in the 39th minute. Matt Drage played a long ball into the path of Nyren Clunis who struck a first time effort that beat Hazlett inside his near post.
As the first half entered stoppage time Harrow had two opportunities to level the score. First, another sloppy pass saw Wilson having to make a brilliant stop to deflect an effort from Newman over the bar and, from the resulting well worked corner routine, Charles-Smith headed wide from no more than three yards out.
Half Time 1-0
The defining moment of the match arrived in the opening minute of the second half. A long ball was chased by Ryan Moss more in hope than expectation, as Hazlett was the clear favourite to reach it. However, the keeper lost his footing and, with Moss now favourite to reach the loose ball he handled outside the penalty area and received his marching orders.
With no substitute keeper on the bench, Driver was forced to don the gloves and yellow shirt and take over between the sticks. The resultant free kick from Ashley Carew beat the wall and stand in keeper but was cleared off the line by a defender who had retreated to man the post.
The loss of Driver to goalkeeping duties blunted the Harrow attack and Dulwich gained a stranglehold on the game. He did well to save a long range effort from Carew and was out quickly to reach a through ball before Moss.
Dulwich doubled their lead in the 61st minute as Dean McDonald played a through ball that tempted Driver off his line and he was left helpless as Damian Scannell lobbed the ball over him from fully 30 yards.
Jack Dixon was just wide with a long range effort and Gus Sow had an effort just too high, before Dulwich added a third in the 77th minute. Nyren Clunis received the ball just outside the box and fired high to the keeper's left.
Four minutes Jacob Erskine added a fourth as his effort squirmed under Driver and over the line.
