Dulwich Hamlet 4-2 Lewes

Dulwich Hamlet 4-2 Lewes

The Hamlet inflicted the first league defeat on their visitors as they maintained their own strong start to the season.

The Hamlet showed a couple of changes from the victory at Bury as they were denied the services of Mathieu Boyer and Lewis Gonsalves through the injuries they suiffered.

Dulwich started the game strongly with Ahmed Deen and Ellis Green combining well down the left. However, in contrast to the good football both sidesv were producing, the first chance came via route one as Phil Wilson's clearance was flicked on by Ian Daly for Jerome Walker who was foiled by Lewes keeper Banks rushing from his box to clear.

It was Dulwich who took the lead as Jerome Walker got away down the right and his cross into the six yard box was turned into his own goal by Steve Brinkhurst.

Dulwich continued to press forward looking for a second and Erhun Oztumer and Ahmed Deen both had shots charged down, while Ian Daly had appeals for a penalty turned aside by the referee who was well placed.

Ellis Green had to leave the field with a hamstring injury and he was replaced by Nyren Clunis who had barely steeped on the field when Lewes equalised through Jay Lovett.

Lewes then had much the better of the remaining 10 minutes of the first half as Dulwich looked for the sanctuary of half time and the dressing room although Erhun Oztumer just failed to get on the end of an Ahmed Deen cross in a rare attack.

The second half opened with Dulwich in the ascendancy and a flowing move saw Nyren Clunis arrive on the end of a pass inside the last defender and finish with style; unfortunately the assistant had flagged for offside.

The Hamlet weren't to be denied for long and Nyren Clunis was set free on the left. His cross to the far post was met by Jerome Walker with a well directed header back across the keeper and inside the far post.

Dulwich quickly added a third as fine interplay between Ian Daly, Erhun Oztumer and Kevin James saw the latter sent in behind the centre halves and confidently restore the lead.

Lwese remained a danger at all times and they reduced the arrears as Jack Dixon hit a terrific volley that gave the diving Phil Wilson no chance.

In an end to end game it was Dulwich who restored their two goal lead as a corner from Kevin James was flicked on by Peter Adeniyi and volleyed home at the far post by Marc-Anthony Okoye.

Matt Crabb had a chance to reduce the arrears but dragged his shot wide when well placed. At the other end Kingsley Banks produced fines stops from Erhun Oztumer and Kershaney Samuels in quick succession.

The victory was secured as Phil Wilson made a fine diving stop from a Fraser Logan header.

Attendance 712.
