DULWICH HAMLET 4-2 WINGATE & FINCHLEY
Three vital points for The Hamlet achieved with a significantly below full strength side and the return of Harry Ottaway.
Gavin Rose sprung a number of surprises in his line up with Nyren Clunis starting at right back, Kershaney Samuels in midfield and Harry Ottaway on the bench.
The Hamlet opened slowly and it was the visitors who had the first shot on target as Craig Davies fed Adam Bolle. His shot was comfortably held by Phil Wilson.
Within seconds Dulwich went close as good work from Ethan Pinnock set Tommy Kavanagh through but he was crowded out.
Dulwich began to impose themselves on the game but had a lucky escape as a free kick by Kieron Street got caught on the wind and almost embarrassed Phil Wilson; the ball bouncing freakishly, clipping him on the head and going just over the bar.
A mistake by Peter Adeniyi, on his 200th appearance, saw the visitors lead. He made a hash of dealing with a long clearance which then rolled into the path of Adam Bolle who advanced to comfortably beat Phil Wilson.
The shock of going behind sparked The Hamlet into life and Ian Daly had a shot comfortably saved whilst Tommy Kavanagh just failed to find Dean Lodge in space. This was a prelude to the equaliser that arrived in the 36th minute.
Good work from Nren Clunis on the right saw his cross from the right hooked home by Ian Daly beyond the far post.
Seven minutes later they were in front as more good work from Clunis saw his effort blocked but he reacted quickest as the ball spun forward towards goal. Beating the advancing Cain Davies in the visitors goal, he pulled the ball across goal for the advancing Dean Lodge to head home.
Half Time 2-1.
The second half took a long time to spark into life with Dulwich controlling matters but not threatening until they increased their lead in the 68th minute. Kershaney Samuels delivered a cross from the left which was missed by Ian Daly but arrived at the feet of Dean Lodge who made no mistake.
If Dulwich thought that made the game safe they weremistaken. Two minutes later a long throw caused confusion in the home defence and Josh Kennett slammed the loose ball high into the net.
Within a minute Dean Lodge should have completed a hat trick but he couldn't keep his shot down after Jerome Walker had rounded the keeper and rolled the ball back across goal.
In the 79th minute the fourth goal arrived as Jerome Walker was sent tumbling in the box and Xavier Vidal confidently converted from the spot..
Wingate & Finchley weren't finished and Jack Read should have done better with a free header that he could only head firmly over.
The afternoon would have been crowned by a goal from Harry Ottaway, returning after 6 months out, but his header was narrowly off target.
