DULWICH HAMLET FANS TEAM UP TO DELIVER VITAL SUPPLIES TO FRENCH REFUGEE CAMPS
Several Dulwich Hamlet fans are working with their fellow non-league football supporters to continue the transportation of much-needed items.
With winter approaching conditions for the refugees in the makeshift refugee camps outside Calais and Dunkirk in France are getting worse and worse by the day. Along with fellow football supporters from Clapton FC and South London based St Pauli London these determined Dulwich Hamlet fans are looking to ensure that donations of food, tents, warm blankets, sleeping bags and coats are delivered to those in dire need.
However, financial donations are urgently needed to maintain the supply of these items with the fans, known as Dulwich2Dunkirk, looking to crowdfund £4,000.
Dulwich2Dunkirk was started by Dulwich Hamlet fans Nisha, Jack and Dave and money raised will allow them to deliver the supplies already donated and bought, and to pay for a van to make the trips across the channel.
Speaking to Brixton Buzz Nisha explained more about the important work of Dulwich2Dunkirk:
Dunkirk camp is in a really bad state. 2000 residents with numbers growing rapidly. Many more women and children than expected. There’s very difficult terrain with lots of mud.
In Calais, we are supporting Sofinee Harun who runs Kitchen in Calais. She runs a free kitchen on site, feeding 1,000 camp residents a day. We are delivering to her 120kg of rice, lots of chopped tomatoes, and fresh veg which we will buy in France and other supplies.
We are also hoping to fund a respite caravan which Sofinee is going to run. The respite caravan will give unaccompanied young people a warm, dry place to rest and get better before returning to their tent.
Sofinee will keep this next to her kitchen so she can keep an eye on them and ensure the children are properly fed and watered
If can spare a few quid, then please donate to the crowdfunding appeal here. You can read more about Dulwich2Dunkirk here.
