Dulwich Hamlet names charity partners for 2019/20
This year the club will be supporting and raising awareness for Redthread and Football Beyond Borders
We have a proud history of supporting and fundraising for local charities. Last season alone, the generous supporters of our club raised over £6,500 for charity. This season we have decided to have not just one charity partner but two. We recognise the fantastic impact of both charities and the work they do with the local community.
Who are Redthread?
Redthread, returning for their second season as official partners, support young people through the vulnerable transition to adolescence, to ensure that they lead safe, healthy and happy lives. Their Youth Violence Intervention Programme runs in hospital emergency departments in partnership with the major trauma network. Their innovative service aims to reduce serious youth violence, and has revolutionised the support available to young victims of violence.
John Poyton, Redthread CEO, said:
“We are delighted that Dulwich Hamlet Football Club have chosen to continue with Redthread as one of their charity partners for another season. It is exciting times for the club and it is great to be a small part of it. Thank you to all of DHFC, the directors, supporters and beyond - for helping us in our mission for all young people to be healthy, safe and happy. We look forward to working together and this is a great opportunity for Redthread to build relationships in the local community."
Who are Football Beyond Borders?
Football Beyond Borders (FBB) are a Football Education Charity based in South London. They use a young person’s passion for football to transform their attitude to learning. FBB work with 600 young people across London, Essex and the North West. Their programmes are built on a classroom based, football-themed curriculum that focuses on the strengths and potential of our young people by placing their passion for football at the centre of their learning. They work with influential players such as Raheem Sterling, Chris Smalling, Aaron Wan Bissaka, Alex Scott, Eni Aluko, and Lianne Sanderson.
Jasper Kain (Co-founder and Director of Football Beyond Borders) has commented:
“We are delighted to enter into a partnership with Dulwich Hamlet FC. They have shown in recent years that they are more than just a football club and are using their platform to the benefit of the local community. We have a shared ethos of using football for good and putting young people first which is at the heart of this charity partnership. We look forward to seeing our young people thrive, as they are able to combine their passion for football with accessible real life learning experiences at Champion Hill. We hope that in doing so, we will see the cultivation of not only a new generation of DHFC fans who feel a real sense of belonging with their local club, but also tangible sense that there are career pathways in football both on and off the pitch”.
Dulwich Hamlet FC is really excited about working with both these charities across the season. We are already planning, alongside the Supporters’ Trust, a number of fundraising and awareness events across the season.
