Dulwich Hamlet U18s 4-3 Hastings United U18s

Dulwich came from behind to defeat Hastings in the FA Youth Cup

A brace from Breno Carmago and goals from Miracle Achampong and Leon Thomas were enough for Dulwich to see off a tough Hastings United side, in a seven-goal thriller at Champion Hill.

Hastings took the lead early on through Kian Maynes but Dulwich worked their way back into the game, with Breno Carmago equalising from the spot. He added a second just before the break, dispossessing the Hastings centre back and hitting it past the keeper with his right. Carmago has now scored six goals in the tournament so far.

However, with one minute to go before half-time, Hastings went up the other end and equalised through Frederick Warren to make it 2-2.

Dulwich were rejuvenated in the second half and Miracle Achampong restored the lead, with a decent shot from a tight angle. Striker Leon Thomas then got on the end of substitute Keenan Allassani‘s cross to give the home side a two goal cushion. Yet Hastings kept themselves in the game and Dulwich defender Dan Simpson made a couple of last-ditch challenges to keep them at bay.

The final ten minutes were tense, with Jack Bates pulling one back for Hastings, but Dulwich held on to go through to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup, where we travel to K Sports - details to be confirmed in due course.

Speaking after the game, U18s assistant manager Danny Mills said, "We’re absolutely delighted with the result tonight. I thought in the first half we allowed the game to be too open and either team could’ve scored. We were allowing them to get out from the back too easily."

"At half time we spoke to the boys, we told them that we wanted to press higher up the pitch to force mistakes. When we did that, we got joy and we managed to get a goal. In the second half, we controlled the game a lot more. We scored two goals and I thought the boys were brilliant."

"I thought Miracle was absolutely outstanding. He showed his quality today and he showed how much of a game player he can be - but everyone who was on the pitch did their job today and we’re just happy to be in the next round."
