Dulwich started 2019 with another poor performance that showed no signs of turning around their poor form.

This was a game that will not live long in the memory between two sides who produced little real quality to entertain the crowd.

Early efforts on goal were nowhere near the target and neither goalkeeper was forced to make any saves as the ball was regularly given away and passes were wayward.

However,the game burst into life in the 28th minute. Jason Banton dispossessed Gardiner and had a clear run on goal but his effort was weak and hit Howes in the home goal. This lack of composure immediately came back to haunt the Hamlet. The ball was cleared down the pitch and from a cross Rollinson was left all alone in the middle of the six yard box to sweep the ball home.

Eastbourne came to life and Walker fired over from a Rollinson cross before the game settled back into its previous pattern of sloppy play by both sides.

Therefore, it came as a complete surprise when The Hamlet equalised right on half time. Ashley Careww played the ball wide to Nathan Green who crossed into the penalty area where there was only Dipo Akinyemi and a number of Eastbourne defenders. However, Akinymi was able to partially win a header and the ball looped up in the air. As the defenders stood around watching, Akinyemi volleyed low past Howes.

Akinyemi then had another chance before the half time whistle but this time his effort was fired high and wide.

If the first half had lacked in entertainment and excitement, the second half wasn't to get any better.

The signs were encouraging in the early minutes when a long diagonal ball was flicked on by Nathan Green and Nyren Clunis brought a flying save from Howes, but that was just a blip and normal service of inaccurate passing and lkack of creativity quickly returned.

On 55 minutes the home side produced a flowing move when Banton lost the ball in midfield and Torres found Rollinson whose cross found Quigley but his headed was scrambled away.

However, four minutes later the combination of Rollinson and Quigley produced the winning goal. Rollinson got the better of Nathan Green and his cross found the unmarked Quigley unmarked six yards out. He completed the simple task of heading past Edwards.

That was pretty much it in terms of any clear chances and well constructed play as the game meandered towards an inevitable home victory. Howes was made to make one routine save from a Carew free kick in stoppage time but in truth Dulwich never looked like taking anything from the match.

The match finished with players involved in unsavoury incidents as they left the pitch and we will await the referee's report as to what happened.
